I thought so, too, Phrynne. She deliberately held that back because she wanted to participate in that ruse. Maeve took a huge risk.
I have mixed feelings about Maeve but I'll wait until further into the series to see what others think. Uh, it's nothing bad or spoilery, just having to do with her overall role in the story.
I also have mixed feelings about Maeve and the direction Thompson is taking her character. Sarah is taking more of a back seat to the action and Maeve is replacing her. I don't like it.
I just read a review where someone mentioned that Sarah was a secondary character in this book (and the last) while Maeve had the spotlight. Of course, I didn't notice it while I was reading the book, but they're right.
I see Maeve differently. I like that they are including her more. She is slowly moving from "a woman's job" to something that is more "man's work." Depending on where the series goes in the future, she can be a new woman who is taken more seriously. I don't see Sarah moving away from helping Frank solve the murders, she is the star of the series. I can see her sharing her detective duties with Maeve. The goal of the mission is to prepare women to fend for themselves. I see Sarah doing that for Maeve.
