Books by Self Published Authors!
As a self published author myself one thing I like to do is read books by other self published authors. I have a few of my favorites I could share!
I agree! I am self-published aswell but I think it is too easy for us to fall through the 'cracks' so to speak. And sometimes I just find it great to hear what self-published works others have been reading, to broarden my view - So, if you would be willing to share I would be greatful!
Me... Me... Me...I make sure I read at least a book or two every month by indie authors. I feel like I am helping fellow authors. And I hope that my good karma will earn me a few readers. Eheheh.
Honeysuckle PearI am an indie author. Please check me out. My latest release is:
Merlin Parnassus
Now that is enough of me, let me introduce you to an exciting writer :
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Jessie-Wolf/...
She has some very entertaining SciFi-Military, Japanese-shogunate and US Marshalls stories.
Here is another fine author:
https://www.facebook.com/tracy.traynor.9
Tracey has produced a series of Fantasy books about a character called Idi. Her humour rarely fails to raise a smile.
Charles Yallowitz, Rita Chapman, Janice Spina, Barbara G. Tarn, K. Morris, Victoria Zigler, Victoria Leybourne, Gita Reddy, and Sally Cronin.Just to name a few.
I read the best self-pub books as much as I could. It's hard to get them in the library, so I would purchase them once in a while ^^

People aren't very adventurous when it comes to genres and authors. Do you find that there is a lot of books in the same genres at the library?

Thanks ever so for the suggestion, I'm having a look at them right now!

Hi!
Thanks for telling me about those authors. and Actually you own book sounds right up my alley so I might give that a go!

I think it's good to help fellow authors where you can, especially since the market isn't really kind to self-pub authors :)
Ida, Thank you for this opportunity. I'm sort of an in-between author regarding publishing. I start out with a publisher and when the book contract time expires I take it back and indie publish it. I did do a straight to indie Chrismas anthology with a friend and fellow author. We even did the cover ourselves. Holiday Magic https://www.amazon.com/Holiday-Magic-...
I would recommend Laurie Ryan https://www.laurieryanauthor.com/roma... she is in the process of writing a fantasy series for release next year. I've critiqued and it is fantastic.

If you want to find self-published authors at the library, you need to request them. Sometimes, if enough requests are made, libraries will order books by self-published authors.

My pleasure. I hope you find some new favourites among them. :)
I'm a self published author of the War of Destiny series. My first book is Lost Soul.I also recommend Arthur Daigle, J.M. Davies, A.E. Lowan, and Lachesha W.B.

I don't think there will ever be enough to request them in Denmark :) People aren't very adventurous here, people like to read the same author over and over and over again and the same genre aswell :)

Thank you so much for the recommendations :)

Not that I know of. To be honest, I would request books before hands before anyone else could ^^; What can I say? I'm a worry wort.
I know that you can ask libraries to request a book, and they could order them. I've been told by readers. I might try it one time and, hopefully, it will work. If not, it's back to ordering self-pub books online.

I wish it was more popular to read self-pub then we would have to order the books months before we would want to read them :) Or buy them :)

I know that Elise Kova is a self-publisher and has been getting there :)
LOL, self-pub authors are all around you here on GR... Especially in this group and other similar groups...
Richard wrote: "LOL, self-pub authors are all around you here on GR... Especially in this group and other similar groups..."I know - I just wanted some recommendations from fellow authors and readers on where to start.
I hope to hear which self-pub authors you are reading, so I might be able to check them out :)
Good day to you!
Ida wrote: "It's hard to get them in the library, so I would purchase them once in a while ^^"..."I checked out the Compare books feature with your favorites; you like a lot of mainstream fiction and classics. I only recommend Pride's Children to those who do. You can ask me for a copy in electronic form, buy it on Amazon (paper or ebook), borrow from KU.
First, there's a sample with the first chapters here and on Amazon, and many excellent reviews both places.
If you're going to commit to a 'big book,' it's worth doing a bit of research to see if you like the writer's style. Mine is mainstream, not genre.
Let me know.

You are welcome. I hope you find something you like.
Elli P Hunt, StolenFirst I would like to mention my own self-published book, how else would people know about it?
There are a few authors that I know who are self-published but one in particular that I want to mention is Barbara Freethy. One of the reason I would like to mention her is that she has sold over 1 billion books. Secondly, she is very supportive to authors who are self-publishing and has some very good advise to offer us. Third, she is one heck of a good story teller, her books are proof of that.
It gives me inspiration to read about Barbara, learning about her struggles which are often my own. Yet, she has overcome them to be a very successful author. I think anyone that wants to be successful a self-published author could learn a great deal from her. She has a author page on Goodreads.
The invention of the personal computer, internet, and on-line literary websites increased the number of self-published authors from several hundred to several hundred thousand in less than a decade. Today there are millions. Unfortunately, too many self-published authors fail to seek the services of qualified, professional copy editors, conceptual editors, and layout design artists prior to releasing their work to the general public. All too often, the resulting poor quality of the finished work, both technically and artistically, is so off-putting that many avid readers avoid self-published works. This is unfortunate since some self-published books meet or exceed both the technical and artistic quality of those that are traditionally published.
There are literally millions of books published every year. The odds of any novice writer achieving commercial success are very slim. That said; some do. There is no reason why you might not eventually become one of them.
One cannot succeed in any venture unless one at least tries. I wish you success.

Rebecca Bryn, Sarah Stuart and Anna Faversham are my favourite indie authors. Well worth checking out.

Hi Ida,
I'm Shanna Swenson, a self-published author myself. My book is called Abundance and it's a contemporary romance novel.
I would recommend several others too!
CR Pugh's Hunted in the Valley- It's a YA novel
Danielle Novotny's Remade was awesome! It's a space opera!
And Lori Katherine's Flow Like Lyric's Poetry Collection
All of us are self-published!

Hi Shanna!
Thank you for sharing these books with me. It's always great to know what other people like to read. I find that it is the best way to broaden your mind in terms of genres, authors and so on. So, thank you ever so! :)

Hi Emileine :) I will have a look at the books you suggested! Thank you for sharing.
If anyone likes humorous science fiction, M T McGuire has self published quite a few novels and shorter works. Her goodreads page which lists them is https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/8382246.M_T_McGuire.My own book was also recently self published, for fantasy fans -
I'm one!
The Blackbird and the Ghost
came out a few weeks ago - it's a fantasy adventure with a dash of archaeology, a soupcon of magic and just a dash of thievery.I'd also recommend Lindsay Buroker's various SF books, they're a pleasure to read and there are a lot of them!
I just self-published my first book That's So Diva! A Teen Girl's Guide to Loving Herself and Living Beautifully. It's about teen empowerment but is also a great read for any parents of teenagers.
I write metaphysical sci-fi, not exactly something with mass market appeal, but I sell a few each month. Check out my website, www.thefifthprophet.com for the details. My latest, just out, is The Strange Reincarnation Of Lucinda Tarne. But since this is not all about me, I'd like to recommend another indie-author, Richard Bunning. I especially liked his two book series, Another Space in Time.
Thanks for asking about indie authors.
I'd like to recommend a friend of mine who is a talented sci-fi author, and successful self-published writer: Nathan Lowell. I recommend staring with his book
Quarter Share.I'm also a self-published author, although I'm not yet in Nathan's league for success. I invite you to take a look at my Steampunk Comedy Adventure The Perils of Prague
. I've also published a collection of my short fiction: The Shining Cog and Other Steampunk Tales.
. And recently I was published in an anthology: Paradise Found: Tales from the Library.
I hope these prove to be entertaining to some of you, and I look forward to seeing which other indie authors appear on the list.
Hello all,My name is A.C. McDowell. I just finished my first book/novella, and am very excited to share it with anyone who gives it a chance. My book is titled "OFF," a story of a serial killer who is trying to live a normal life. He finds himself, however, reverting back to his old ways when his friend and love interest goes missing.
Additionally, I wanted to let everyone know that I am hosting a book giveaway with Goodreads during which, one hundred advanced copies of my book will be given away. Please enter below.
Reading this thread, I guess I'm luck that all my books are in the local library. I would like to recommend Rebecca Brynn ,https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... who I believe is self-published and has written some amazing books. Also Sarah Stuart https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... author of the Royal Command Series.
I am proud to announce that Oceanside: A Healing Place, which won the short story fiction award at for Oceanside Library Literary Festival, is now available on Amazon. A few months ago, I picked up a book at our local library called "The Skin Game, and Other Atlantic City Capers" - it was published through Xlibris around 2002 by a self-published author, Joseph Wilkins (who passed not long ago) - Very vivid writing, evocative of Elmore Leonard or Donald Westlake, certainly much better than many of the trad published crime thrillers I've read.
Well, this is my book: Dare to Be Seen : From Stage Fright to Stage Presence Ten Easy Steps to Turn Your Performance Anxiety into Authentic Confidence with Transformational hypnotherapy.
It's got mostly 5 star reviews on goodreads and amazon.
