2019 Movie Mania - Questions & Discussion
This is an amazing challenge, Janice! I’ve only gophered the first four movies and already I have so many books that I really want to read. Thank you for all your hard work!
I always have fun creating these challenges so it doesn't feel like work. I'm looking forward to gophering. There were some books that popped to mind as I worked on it, and they ended up being examples in the reporting instructions.
Wow, you don't succumb to gophering as you go . . . I wouldn't have the willpower lolThe challenge looks amazing, thank you! :)

I don't gopher intentionally. I saw the movie, Red Sparrow, and then immediately bought the book. It's a no-brainer that I will read that book for the challenge. I also just acquired Becoming on audiobook. When I googled Oprah's bookclub, it was the first on the list being the latest addition to her bookclub. That's also a no-brainer for me. So unless it's an obvious choice, I gopher along with everyone else.
Wow! 40 pages just announcing the challenge! I'm in awe Janice! It's a fantastic one! I can't imagine how much time must have gotten into it. Lol, 216 tasks. If I only read challenge books it would take me about 4 years to complete. I'll go for 36 again ;-) Looking forward to gophering!
Question about going for badge 2: I understand that if I want badge 1, I read 12 books for 12 different movies. But if I want to read on for badge 2, should I read one book each for the remaining 24 movies, or can I also include books corresponding to the 12 movies of Badge 1 (different tasks, of course)?
Awesome Janice! Of course the day my father-in-law comes to stay the year long comes out. I should put him straight back on a plane to Hobart. I have important gophering to do!!
Haha, I deliberately haven't read the tasks yet, only the general instructions. I know from the moment I read the task I'll be gophering, either by going through all my shelves or with book options flying around in my head, and I can't use that today. I have papers to grade!Tonight when I get home I'll have a good look :)
*Feeling proud of her self-discipline*
Good for you, Peggy! I'm at work and couldn't hold myself from gophering, but it's to much. All these titles that come in mind :)

If you want to do all the tasks for a particular movie, here's your chance. If you want to select 24 more movies and do one task each, that's your choice.
That’s great, Janice! I didn’t realize after badge 1 was a free for all of tasks. This is going to be fun. I wasn’t nearly as good as you ladies. I only gophered for a few, but it was close to midnight when I started. I’m feeling tired today.
I haven’t come up with a thread name yet! My mind is blank and there’s so many good ones already. I have no creativity today.

I can feel decision-stress coming up already, with 216 tasks of which I'll read only 36. I'm thinking of challenging myself to read one book for each movie, but I'm not sure.
Janice, for the Trivia task for Forever My Girl, it says "read a book with 'country'". Does that mean read a book with the word "country" in the title, the name of a country in the title, set in the countryside or a country and western theme?
Lisa wrote: "Janice, for the Trivia task for Forever My Girl, it says "read a book with 'country'". Does that mean read a book with the word "country" in the title, the name of a country in the ..."It's the word "country" that I'm looking for. Example No Country for Old Men.

The challenge is great, Janice! I absolutely love it :)I´ve already got my books together for the first 2 badges :D
Phew! I'm gophered out! I decided I wasn't going to gopher for all the tasks this year as there is no way I am going to read over 200 books. I am going to aim to complete Round 1 (12 books) so I have chosen 12 films and picked out books for all the tasks related to them. If I get to Round 2, I will plan accordingly as and when I need to.
That's a good idea Lisa.I think I'll start gophering with just what comes to mind for all tasks, so that I have some (a lot of ;-)) options.

Lol, yes, you will certainly have plenty of options if you gopher for all 216 tasks! 😉. I have 78 books picked out even with only gophering for 12 films.
Thanks for th great challenge ,Janice.I did not start gophering either.
Jusy copy pasted the movies.
I am thinking of maybe gophering for 36 tasks, so I have options for the first 12 books.
Have some work now.
Question about - The Hate U Give2. Author: Angie Thomas was the winner of the National Booker Award for Young People. Read a book that was a nominee or winner of the National BOOKER Award.
Isn't it The National BOOK Award? I'm looking for this award on the Goodreads lists. This one?
Amazing, Janice! I don't know how you do it! I only read the first 3 movies so far. I will take a better look later, when my eyes and brain are working again.
Almeta wrote: "Question about - The Hate U Give2. Author: Angie Thomas was the winner of the National Booker Award for Young People. Read a book that was a nominee or winner of the National BOOKER Award.."
Thanks for catching that, Almeta. I'll correct it on the main challenge page.
Note correction - The correct award for The Hate U Give is National Book Award for Young People.
My plan is to plug in the obvious choices and then strategize from there. I likely won't try to fill all of the tasks. I'm going to aim for the first 2 badges, and then see what happens.
Janice, every year, as I am anxiously anticipating the announcement of the annual challenge, I wonder how your imagination could possibly top the current year challenge. And every year it happens! I can’t imagine how much work is involved to put this together. Thank you for giving so freely of your time. I’ve gophered the first 12 books, and will more slowly start adding plans for badge 2.

As always I am in awe of your imagination Janice - this is awazing 😀😃😄
I will be happily choosing books for the foreseeable future DO NOT DISTURB ......lol
Great challenge Janice!I'm thinking of looking at books the movies are based on and reading those that interest me as a start. I'm always complaining that people should read the book to the film and I can gopher for the rest later.
I was up until 2am working on gophering and when I went to save my post there was a problem and I lost the whole thing! So disappointed. I’ll try to redo it today. There are plenty of good books that come to mind without even gophering though, so that’s good.
I usually save more often, but didn’t this time. (It was late, I was tired.) I remember most of what was lost, I think. I was just too tired at 2am to redo it. I’ll try again today.
I've also had it happen that I save regularly, but still manage to push a combination of keys that make me lose the whole thing :/
How frustrating Kristie! I hope you can reconstruct it without too much problem.I'm glad everyone is enjoying gophering.
Super challenge, Janice. I love the tasks! I have not gophered for anything yet, but I have already identified several books that I own or just bought that will fit a task for several of the movies. I am still trying to finish the movie tasks for my last badge in the current challenge, so I am not going to do anything for 2019 right now, except think of a name. You rock, Janice!PS. I saw a typo, but do not remember where now. I think it said "work", instead of "word".
Cherie wrote: "PS. I saw a typo, but do not remember where now. I think it said "work", instead of "word". .."Do let me know if you find it again.

Under Meg:
6. Trivia: Meg is a Carcharodon megalodon, the massive mother of the great white shark. Read a book with one of the species of shark's in title. Do not use the work "shark". In the case of a two word species (like great white), either word may be used. Use this site as a reference.
Janice, first I just have to say WOW! This challenge is amazing!I have a question about task 3 for Bel Canto Read a book with a Religious theme or Atheist theme. I was wondering if The Yada Yada Prayer Group Gets Tough would work or did you have something different in mind?
Lori Z wrote: "Janice, first I just have to say WOW! This challenge is amazing!I have a question about task 3 for Bel Canto Read a book with a Religious theme or Atheist theme. I was wondering if ..."
It certainly sounds like it will fit the task.
One of the books that popped into my mind when writing that task was Agnes of God. This story is about a young nun, living in a convent, and conflicted about her religious life. Your book seems to have a similar theme, where external social issues test the prayer group's faith, at least that's what it sounds like from the book blurb and some of the reviews.

I'm going to post the year long challenge. Please do not post anything on the challenge thread. It's very long (40 messages), and it's going to take some time to post it. I will delete anything that's posted, meanie that I am.
