Fantasy Buddy Reads discussion

Buddy read starts 15th February.

Is anyone planning to read Renegades beforehand? Or am I the only one who haven't read it yet 😅

I'm not sure if I will be able to join this one. According to Waterstones (UK equivalent of Barnes & Noble) and Amazon, this won't be available in the UK until April 18. It's weird as it will let me buy the kindle version now but the book format isn't available yet.

As I already own book 1 in book format I don't want to have to buy the kindle version and the book version later so I might need to sit this one out :(.

I will be reading Renegades first too😊

Anyone else planning on starting this one soon? The library just alerted me that a copy was available so I'm probably going to try starting it in the next couple of days.

I just started this one last night. It's great to be back in the world of superheros and villains ^^

I started this morning, but only read the first 3 chapters... 😅

I'm loving this book even more than the first one ^^ Right away it starts with that intense chase scene, grabbing you back into that world. I think it definitely helps that no intros are needed, you can just dive in and see how Nova is doing with her mission.

I'm trying to speed read this book because of my crazy BR schedule, so I'm at Chapter 21 right now. Here are some spoilers: (view spoiler)[

I'm very much intrigued by the use of Project N. We all thought that 'the bandit's' powers were going to be manipulated in some way, and here it finally is. I'm totally siding with Nova on this one. It just seems like this should be a last resort kinda weapon. To take away what someone is? It's a big decision. And can't it always be done after they are captured? Why bother weaponizing it with all of the risks involved? They are really dealing with fire those renegades. They don't even think of the anarchists as people :/

And what do you all think of Dana, does she know about Nova? I feel like she's getting some vibes.

It's also great to see more of Ace in this book. Unfortunately he seems to be a shadow of his former self. And this war between the renegades and anarchists...it doesn't seem like it will end easily... (hide spoiler)]

Ooh I haven't started it yet but I did grab it from the library. I keep kind of hoping that I'll get snowed in so that I can play catch up on my buddy reads... Planning on starting this one tonight though, super stoked that it's already better than the first one @Katie!

Didn't get snowed in but I did start reading it last night. Loving the instant action! Very fun to be back

That's a shame, but at least you got some chapters in ^^ I'm tearing through this one. Hope to finish it sometime today :)

So, I couldn't help myself, I just had to finish the book this morning. What a rush that ending was! Wow! It just left me wanting more!

(view spoiler)[I'm terribly sad that Max got stuck in the crosshairs at the end there. Nova helping to save his life like that made it all the much better. Just goes to show you that kindness crosses all boundaries, renegade or anarchist, it doesn't matter. But now there is even more misplaced hatred with the Sentinel and Nightmare. I am just really excited to see that big reveal. It's gotta happen in the next book, right? Being a trilogy and all. I just can't believe no one has clued into their secret identities yet...well except Dana, and that was wonderful. Trapping her in her swarm form like that O.O

And Frostbite, ugh. I guess her and her team got their just desserts? Terrible terrible people :(

I was fairly shocked that Ace was taken captive like that. How do they not have more protective measures there?! I suppose they did have Phobia... I also think it's due to Ace's actions. He could have kept hidden for a while longer, but he chose to fight. He's been cooped up too long and yearns to be back in the thick of things. And speaking of Phobia...we saw Adrian's worst fear, being powerless to save his mom like that...I dunno but I still believe Phobia is responsible. I mean, come on...he drew those monster-like shapes from his dreams...maybe it was Phobia in some part...scouting ahead before completing the mission? hmmm...

But yes, all and all nice fast and easy read for me. More quicklyr paced than the first one in my opinion. I'm really excited to see how things wrap up in the final installment. 4/5 stars for me :)

Well, I think I'm going to have to put this one on hold for a bit until I get paid. Left my copy from the library on the bus and it doesn't seem like anyone is going to turn it in. Going to buy the library a new copy and then hopefully get myself one too (cause I was having a lot of fun with it). Should start up again on Wednesday and then I'll look back through the comments. I'm a bit late to the party but I got a hold of this yesterday and I read 99 pages in one go on the train yesterday, I'm loving it! (view spoiler)[ They can't just give the serum out willy-nilly. It's going to cause chaos. Nova is right, you can't just use with without due process. The criminals deserve a trial, a chance to explain themselves. I think the Renegades are overstepping.

I think things are going to kick off majorly between Nova and Adrian. It's inevitable that they'll discover each other's alter egos and shit will go down. I'm really rooting for both of them. (hide spoiler)]

@Charlie (view spoiler)[ RIGHT! That's all so very very wrong! How can they believe that they are able to judge how evil a person is and if they deserve to get their powers taken away from them? And everything judged by a short meating? They could just be in the wrong place at the wrong time...

I'm waiting for the whole reveal how they really are quite impacient. The book is called Archenemies after all, so they nees to become Enemies somehow, I guess. And the way they act sometimes is so damn obvious, someone for sure will realize it soon.
My theory is that Max might have stolen a bit of Nightmare's power as well and that he can put people to sleep now, that might reveal Nova's true identity.

Honestly I'm not the biggest fan of Adrian's whole armor part... The first thing he did underwater is openig the hole in his torso to stuff his armor in, shouldn't the hole fill itself (and Adrian) with water in seconds? 😅 (hide spoiler)]

Also the whole helmet thing. Max should be able to open the box as well I guess... He has some of the Caltain's powers as well!

And I'm wondering what Adrian is planning to do with this pendant. Callum said that it protects against strength-draining attacks, do you think it works against Max and Agent N as well? (hide spoiler)]

Yea, they are... just not me... don't let my apathy deter you... I read ALOT of Fantasy last year, and have been much choosier this year... just finished The Spirit Rebellion started Jhereg, and am on the cusp of trying Foundryside

It's such a fun read. I'm almost scared to finish it, I don't want to see everything fall apart.

I definitely get that, and I agree with her. I just don't think that with Ace in charge, any of that will happen. It seems like during the age of anarchy, society stopped and was not remotely functional. It's going to be a mess if Ace regains power and I think Nova is wilfully ignoring that. I just want them all to get along and be happy!

Yeah, Ace has definitely changed after the events of his downfall. He was an extremist to begin with...but now? hmmm...

Right? I always want the characters to have their happy little ending ^~^ You'll just have to continue reading to see if they get it, lol

I have TOG in my bag with my today, I totally agree it's great for being in a slump. That being said, Empire of Storms put my in a massive book slump when I read it. It was so good, nothing could compare!

It took months and months to get over it, I'm scared to re-read it this time around!

I can't wait to get to that point! So far the first novel is kind of so so for me, but I've heard great things about the series. And I love ACOTAR <3
