let me just say, I'm pleased I'm liking it so far, because my expectations were no good. BUT his memoir was really great, so something changed in me towards murakami too

I'm so glad you're having a better experience so far! I do hope that you'll give Wind-up Bird and Kafka on The Shore a try too!
I've read Kafka (my favorite), Norwegian, Men without Women. I have Wind-Up but haven't read it yet - is it good?

Wind-Up Bird and Kafka are my favorites, and I also really liked HardBoiled Wonderland and the End of the World. Read several others, but these are my top 3 thus far! we'll see where 1Q84 comes in after we finish!
My favorite is Kafka on the Shore. My least favorite SO far is Norwegian wood.
I didn't like much Norwegian wood either. Neither did I like much A wild sheep chase, BUT the ones on running got me hopeful again
I've only read Wind Up, which I LOVED, and Kafka, which I enjoyed. Some scenes from Wind-Up are seared into my memory forever. Getting into 1Q84! It's hard to put down.
