Isaiah Quintabe, nicknamed IQ by newspaper writer, is a young African American man living in East Long Beach with an enormous intelligence. He works solving cases in his neighborhood that are too small for the police. To bring in some money he agrees to help a rapper Calvin aka Black the Knife, find out who is trying to kill him. The book switches between Isaiah's current case and his early life. I liked Isaiah and that the book is a mystery set in an area that isn't commonly written about. I didn't like how the book frequently shifts perspective, often for no reason. The author has written at least two more books featuring Isaiah and I look forward to reading them.
