Play Book Tag discussion

Imagine if two people, one reading Jane Austen, and one reading Charles Dickens, bump into each other and, like the peanut butter cup commercial, their books combine. That’s Anthony Trollope.

This book is about a married couple who are having trouble. She is communicating with an older gentleman who is a family friend. Her husband gets into his head that she’s unfaithful. This starts accusations and misunderstandings that continue throughout the book. But the love triangle isn’t the only storyline. There are many connected characters with their own stories. There’s a cantankerous rich aunt. There’s a wealthy peer-to-be waiting for his inheritance. There’s poor boys and girls in love with their “betters”. There’s a mercenary vicar.
This is a fast moving story with characters that are easy to care about. The half point taken off is due to the repetition of character traits and points of view. Otherwise, it was a great read. I’m looking forward to reading more by Trollope.
