It had been a long day. Haeun's shift — a monotonous eight hours stuffed with refilling coffees and taking the same orders — had finally ended a few minutes ago. She had already changed, trading out her uniform for a red shirt, a black jacket, jeans, and converse, and had found her way to the restaurant's bar, sitting square in the middle.

"Again?" Austin, a waiter with short brown hair and puppy eyes, asked. She nodded, eyes too focused on scanning the restaurant. From the corner of her vision she could see his eyes roll, but he left without saying anything else. It seemed like he'd given up on asking her why she always stayed here her shift, even after she'd complained for eight hours straight about it. She thought that was smart: it wasn't like she would have given him a straight answer anyways.

Her eyes flickered over the diner's attendance, moving from booth to booth, table to table. There was a wide selection, almost too wide. The diner, though not where she would have chosen to spend her night's out, was always a popular spot with high school and college students, especially on the weekends. She caught one of them in her eye: a boy, probably around twenty years old. He was sat at a table by himself, eyes glancing curiously at the bill a waiter had just laid down. He'd be an easy catch, she thought, waiting for him to stand and walk out the diner.

She made the move to stand up and follow when a young blonde girl came out of the bathroom. The blonde linked arms with the boy, smiling brightly at him. Damn. Haeun frowned, letting out a heavy sigh as she planted herself back in her chair, eyes hunting for another meal.

Elizabeth angrily tugged at the door of the diner and swung it open before walking in. Ugh! He’s so annoying. I can’t believe he’s going to tell my parents. What an ass, and he’s making me work with him!

Elizabeth made her way to one of the booths at the far corner where she could be alone. She lowered the hood of her black hoodie and shook out her red short hair. She obviously seemed pissed, and how couldn’t she be after what happened. Not wanting to go home just yet, she came here. She didn’t even think she wanted food, really. She just wanted to let off some steam, some how.

She pulled out her phone from the back pocket of her black jeans and looked at the screen, finding Lorenzo’s name. Her stomach dropped at his name, wondering what her brother wanted from her. Did Ryland call him? She panicked internally for a moment. She opened up the message to see that he was just checking where she was, like usual, and even though she was annoyed from it, she was glad it wasn’t what she thought it was. She texted him back that she was at a diner before setting her phone down on the table.

A waitress came up to her and asked her what she wanted, and she simply asked for a coke. She didn’t think she could handle anything in her stomach at the moment.

The front door slammed shut and Haeun's gaze shifted to the front as a girl with bright hair and dark clothes walked in. The girl's eyes were fierce, obviously irate, and her eyebrows were furrowed. She took up a seat at a small booth in the corner of the restaurant, her anger apparent to anyone who looked her way. Perfect.

Standing up, Haeun tucked a piece of her black hair behind her ear and made her best attempt at a smile. She was a convincing actor. After all, despite her inherent aversion to interacting with people, she was willing to be conversational in the pursuit of food. Walking in the girl's direction, she waited for the waitress to head to the kitchen before she stood in front of the girl's table, ignoring the suspicious look the waitress gave her.

"Hi," Haeun started out, shoving one hand deep in her jacket pocket and holding the other out for the girl to shake. "I'm Haeun." She gave a bit of a sigh, feigning awkwardness. "I know this is random, but I was wondering if you knew where the nearest bus stop is. My friends and I went out for the night but..." She gave a small, uncomfortable laugh, "... they kind of left me here and I don't have a way to get home." Lying through her teeth had gotten easy at this point. 170 years of practice will do that.

After the waitress left with her order, Elizabeth picked up her phone and read the text her brother sent back. Her fingers were quick to reply to him with every text he sent back. You’ve got to be kidding me. He won’t let me go with a date?! Elizabeth shook her head a little to herself as she texted him back, trying to end this argument with Lorenzo because he was really getting her angry.

Luckily, with the appearance of the girl at her table, Elizabeth was given a reason to stop texting him. She glanced up from her screen, looking over the dark haired girl. She wants my help? Elizabeth raised an eyebrow at her before looking around the diner. There were other people she could have asked, most being older and probably knew better than Elizabeth. But then again maybe the girl felt comfortable talking to people her age. It seemed reasonable with their generation. “The bus stop...” she said, mostly to herself.

Elizabeth looked out the window to see if she could see it from where she sat but didn’t. She looked back up to the girl, kind of feeling bad for her that she was ditched. She had no reason not to believe her because she played the part of embarrassed and awkward. “Um... it’s down the block to the right. But like, you won’t see it until... actually, y’know what. I’ll show you it.”

Even though Elizabeth was angry and annoyed, she wouldn’t turn down a girl that needs help. She moved to stand up as she glanced at one of the waitresses. She hoped they don’t mind it if she left for a quick second. “I’m Elizabeth, by the way. Just follow me,” she tells her. As she began to move out of the diner, she quickly texted her brother that she had to go and then left him on red when he texted back.

Well, that was easy, Haeun thought to herself, giving a warm "thanks so much" as the other girl stood from the table. She walked a few steps behind, picking up her pace to walk beside the other girl as they stepped outside. It was dark and fairly chilly outside the diner, dim streetlights just barely lighting the quiet street. Haeun couldn't see any sign of people besides the occasional car that passed along on the highway a street over.

"Haeun." She didn't mind giving the other girl her real name. Yeah, there probably wasn't anyone else in the town named Haeun, but it wasn't like she planned on leaving the other girl with enough blood to survive the night. And even if she did, it wasn't like anyone would believe her. Officer, she's a vampire, I swear. Yeah, right.

"Really, thanks for showing me the way," Haeun started, keeping her pace just a bit slower than the other girl's, as though she didn't already know exactly where they were going. "Most people would probably have just told me to find it myself." She wasn't lying. Most of the time, she had to come up with some other way to get a person's help. Sometimes she'd have to pretend that she was new in town and definitely didn't know the way around, but this time was easy. "I really appreciate it." And she did.

Elizabeth lead Haeun out of the diner and down the street like she had instructed her to when they were inside. Her hands were stuffed into the pocket of her black hoodie, flipping her phone in her hands again and again to give herself something to do. She had put it on silent mode so her bother wouldn’t disturb her because she had had enough of him already.

“No problem,” Elizabeth tells her with a small smile, her words turning to clouds in the cold air and the little light that there was from the streetlights. Even though she had a hoodie on, it wasn’t because of the freezing weather. If anything, she felt really warm, and she assumed that it had to do with the fact that she made fire in some way. So maybe... fires was already traveling through her blood and keeping her room. Elizabeth was not scientists- hell, she didn’t even think a scientist could explain that to her- but ever since she developed her powers, it was really hard to get cold.

After passing a few building and alleyways, they were coming close to the end of the block where the bus stop would be around the corner. “It’s right there, where the stand is. See? I’m not sure when the next bus will be here. It’s usually fifteen minutes until the next one comes... so yeah.” Elizabeth shrugged as she turned to the girl.

Haeun almost felt bad. Not really, but almost, you know? After all, this girl was willing to lead her to a bus-stop that was definitely out of her way for no reason other than the kindness of her own heart. What a saint. The world could probably use more people like her, and if the world was different, Haeun would probably have wanted to be this girl's friend.

But this wasn't that world.

As the girl pointed out the bus-stop, Haeun's eyes grew intense, a slight red shade taking over their previous black. Fangs, long and sharp, came down from over her teeth. They peaked out from down-turned lips and dark expression, but as she opened her mouth in something like a growl, they were on full display. She acted fast, lunging at the other girl, ready to tear teeth into flesh.

Elizabeth was just turning when she heard what seemed like a growl. Before she knew it, she felt a strong force lunge onto her, forcing her to be nocked into the building behind her. A gasp escaped Elizabeth’s lips both from the impact and the sharp pain that she felt in her neck. What the fuck?! Any sympathy she had towards this girl left and both anger and fear took over, and so did her powers. Without even thinking it through, just as quickly as the girl attacked her, Elizabeth pushed her away, and as she did, fire exploded from her hands towards Haeun with the push.

With eyes wide, she looked over her, confused at how things quickly changed. Just a second ago she was helping this shy girl, and now, the same girl stood before her with fangs out and eyes slightly red, and she had almost fed off of her. Elizabeth normally wasn’t always so helpful to people, but when someone was in dire need, she would, just like she did with this girl. But turns out she shouldn’t have. “Your a vampire? What the fuck. Get away from me!” Elizabeth was actually freaking out from the inside. Her left hand moved to her neck, which was slightly injured from Haeun’s attempt to attack her. Lizzy’s right arm was stretched out before her with her palm open and facing the girl, as if getting ready to attacked. But in all reality, Elizabeth didn’t know what she was doing. She never really learned how to use her powers. She was just hoping luck would be on her side. “Stay away.” She warns her, her back still pressed against the the building behind her.
