I read this when I was really little (15-20yrs ago); it's about a girl living in a house built by her great great grandparents and one day when she goes out to this big rock near by she travels back in time to before the house was built and meets her ancestors who built the house. She becomes good friends with a girl named Emma (who is her great-great aunt) and they hide a small pebble in the rock which, when the girl (MC; I can't remember her name) touches it she will travel back to Emma's time again. She spends most of her time in the house travelling back to see Emma and spending time with her and her family, including Emma's younger brother George. She does things with them like help make medicine out of plants when the family gets sick, and there was one part where they ate Saskatoon berries.I can't remember the name of it though! There is a sequel to it, and in it she comes back to the house and travels back via a carved wooden bird hidden in the fireplace. It is set several years later and is mostly about her and George.

Great. Glad you found your book, Violet. Your clue about Sasktoon berries made all the difference.
