The Next Best Book Club discussion

Hi friends!

This summer, as usual, consisted of a few classics and a few BIG books. I'm re-reading "The Outsiders," my favorite from my youth, currently. I'll be done with that before the end of the weekend.

Next on my list was Dostoevsky's "Brothers Karamazov" but I think I've changed my ming and want something light to end the summer on.

Don't usually do much in the way of chick-lit but both "Confessions of a Shopaholic" and "Time Traveler's Wife" are on my list. If not either of those, do you have any suggestions? Thank you!

I think I'm going to check out that Inconceivable book.

is fun for light summer read; as well as Prodigal Summer A Novel. I also agree with Suzanne that a Sedaris book would be a hoot!

how about the Thursday Next books from Jasper Fforde? fun, light hearted and very entertaining.

if you're willing to read romantic/chic lit, but not that fluffy harelquin stuff, check out the Chicago Stars series from Susan Elizabeth Philips, or the Malibu & Ewe series from Christie Ridgway.

How about The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society?

Katherine, by Anya Seton, is a lovely historical romance.

Fiona - is University Challenge anything like College Bowl?

Jasper Fforde and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society are both great choices.

I'd recommend Nick Hornby 's The Polysyllabic Spree or Housekeeping vs. The Dirt .

They're very funny autobiographical essays, and they're about books & reading.

Sophie Kinsella has another one out called "Remember Me?" it's a pretty quick read, and you don't have to have read the Confessions... books first. :)

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is great!! also, I'm reading the Gun Reader by Hugh Laurie...it's a thriller...but is also extremely hysterical!! I'm about half-way through and I just started yesterday...pretty quick read, but really good!!

Yes, that would be College Bowl. Was a TV show here in the states in the 60s, but it's still contested - I played in the 80s.
