Elizabeth Doherty | 13 comments Excellent! It sounds like we'll attempt Genji first, but I'm definitely hoping to get through both of these.

Susan | 61 comments Me, too. I took a look, and my copy is about 570 pages long. I’m excited to know I’ll be reading it!

message 4: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Doherty | 13 comments Mine's longer than that, but that's probably because it's laid out with footnotes instead of endnotes. It'll likely make more sense to plan wrt the internal books of the poem.

Susan | 61 comments Yes, I think there are twelve books, and they look roughly the same length?

message 6: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Doherty | 13 comments Looking at line numbers, book 12 is by far the shortest (874 lines). Book 11 is the longest (2427 lines). The rest of them mostly range between 1500 and 2100 lines.

Susan | 61 comments Good to know! Are you thinking a book or two at a time? Each one is in a different voice iirc.

message 8: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Doherty | 13 comments Probably one at a time at first: it'll take me a little while to get back into Browning's rhythm, I expect.

message 9: by Susan (new)

Susan | 61 comments That sounds good to me. Looks like the first book is in the voice of the poet.

message 10: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Doherty | 13 comments It's a (tentative) plan! :)
