I read Books 1 and 3 (2 was missing from the library). I loved Snicket's wry humour. I can see that a parent reading these books to or with their children would get a kick out of them. It's also interesting to see how flawed and complicated the adults characters are, even well-meaning ones. Very realistic that an adult could appear to be concerned and indifferent (the Banker/Executor) at the same time or sweet and cowardly (the Aunt by Lake Lachrymose).
I'm curious to know how children reacted to this. Any comments from parents out there?
