Here are two that I wrote in my journal today.~~Be stubborn about your goals and flexible about your methods.
This one was from a youtube video on Bullet Journals. Anyone here bullet journal ? I hope to set mine up this week.
~~ If you want to know what a person really wants,
watch what they do, not what they say.
This was said by a commentator on TV about Trump and the government shutdown when he walked out of the meeting.

Winter is the slow-down
Winter is the search for self
Winter gives the silence you need to listen
Winter goes gray so you can see your own colors...

I like this!
I was captivated by these descriptions last year but very unlike me I did not save the author and/or title of the novel. Can anyone assist me with your recognition? "With the coming of dusk he saw colored lights shine forth on all the houses, a light dusting of snow reflecting them as wavering strips of rainbow."
"and he chuckled to himself at the windbreaks of Lombardy poplars. They still reminded him of rows of exclamation points, just as they had in his childhood, especially with the snowy ground behind them like white paper."
"...because she felt the warmth of his gaze like sun on her shoulders."
Thank you.
Ferne, i was amused by the poplar quote, so Googled it. This isn't an exact quote, so i'm guessing the author of the title you are seeking saw the trees the same way. From Getting Acquainted with the Trees by J. Horace (John Horace) McFarlandFew whose eyes are turned upward toward the trees have failed to note that exclamation-point of growth, the Lombardy poplar.
I guess many people think of punctuation when they see that tree. I'm also guessing i've never seen a Lombardy poplar or it would have stayed with me.
ANYway, good luck with your search.
Thank you Madrano. I Googled various parts of the quotes too to no avail. I appreciate your taking the time to try and help me! :)All the best,
Ferne

I think there is a group on GoodReads dedicated to finding things like this. Maybe if you ask in the Goodreads Feedback they can direct you.

:) From what I hear, a certain someone doesn't like to read. Perhaps we can get the cable talk shows to mention it.
Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced. James Baldwin - quoted in Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult

Dru, I was just about to post this quote on change when I read your quote. :)
You can't go back and change the beginning but you can start where you are and change the ending.
~~~ C. S. Lewis
How curious that you both have a book about change. Shall we attribute it to the new "Year of the Pig" or phase of the moon or what? Thanks to both of you--good ones.
"If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way." Attributed to Martin Luther King in Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult.
I am going to check out this Picoult book that you are getting these terrific quotes from. I've read some of her books. They have been hit or miss for me. Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult
The economist J.K. Galbraith once wrote, “Faced with a choice between changing one’s mind and proving there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy with the proof.”Leo Tolstoy was even bolder: “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him.”
These are from a newsletter I subscribe to by the author of
Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear
Am i alone in thinking Tolstoy must have been predicting Donald Trump? I in no way envy those in his cabinet who must discuss foreign affairs issues with him.* He seems to have already decided the answers without knowing the questions. I think someone else put Tolstoy's quote more succinctly, "Don't confuse me with the facts."*This is not meant to be political commentary, only a comment on what we've heard from officials who were tasked with explaining such matters to him.
Blood, Sweat, Respect. The first two, you give. The last one you earn. Said by Dwayne Johnson at the end of the first season of the Titan Games.
Men are born soft and supple;dead, they are stiff and hard.
Plants are born tender and pliant;
dead, they are brittle and dry.
Thus whoever is stiff and inflexible
s a disciple of death.
Whoever is soft and yielding
is a disciple of life.
The hard and stiff will be broken.
The soft and supple will prevail.
I read this quote in the book I just finished
Yes, very nice. And isn't it neat that authors from years ago remind us that this is true? It's as though they are reaching out to us still.
"Sometimes You can do everything right and things will still go wrong. The key is to never stop doing right." The Hate U Give
So... I just started reading a biography of Fred Rogers and the quote said by Fred Rogers at the beginning of the book was very interesting. "There are three ways to ultimate success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind."
There is a movie on Rogers that I want to get from my library.
Won't You Be My Nieghbor.
Here is the trailer.
Dru, what good quotes you've shared this week. Mr. Rogers was a gem and it tickles me when i see folks sharing some of his thoughts. Thank you.
The biography of Mr. Rogers is called The Good Neighbor by Maxwell King. Won't you be my Neighbor is pretty good. The media teacher in the school I work at is showing it to some of her sixth grade students. It's interesting seeing their reactions.
