Today is a special UFO anniversary "On this day in 1947, the secret committee known as Majestic 12 was allegedly created by President Truman to deal with the Roswell Incident and other alien incursions."
Majestic 12 is strongly affirmed by Stan Friedman but I have some strong doubts about the document. Has anybody studied the topic in depth? I may have to read Stan's book on the topic:
Top Secret/Majic: Operation Majestic-12 and the United States Government's UFO Cover-up Paperback – August 19, 2005
by Stanton T. Friedman (Author), Whitley Strieber (Foreword)

It's a bit like how the origins of early Christianity are now acknowledged by most historians and theologians alike to differ in many ways from the (previously) official version. One example in this analogy is how the extensive 4th century Biblical edits made by the Romans are all now fairly common knowledge at least in academic and religious circles.
Well, probably the same thing will happen in time with Roswell and the entire alien cover-up (or alien myth, depending on your take).
One way or another, humanity as a whole will one day know for sure whether the antigravity flying discs so many are seeing in the skies are manmade or alien technologies. Likewise, the history of the elite levels of certain governments interacting with extraterrestrial civilizations will also surface with clarity, if indeed it is true.
As William Shakespeare wrote all those centuries ago, “The truth will out.”

In fairness, it should also be noted there are other conspiracy theories about the Roswell incident that have nothing whatsoever to do with aliens or otherworldly technologies.
One such alternative explanation involves Japan and the aftermath of WW2. This report, which apparently has/had many credible witnesses just like the alien body accounts, says that US military personnel did indeed find a crashed UFO with survivors in it.
However, the crucial difference compared to other Roswell reports is that military personnel claimed the survivors were not extraterrestrials but Japanese people.
This seemingly unlikely theory suggests the Japanese had access to their own antigravity propulsion technology – either manmade or extraterrestrial in origin – and that they were attempting to attack the US with advanced flying craft to enact revenge for the atomic destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
Whether this story was a result of post war propaganda or paranoia on behalf of US military personnel, or whether the Japanese really did have antigravity propulsion systems of their own and were looking to exact justice, is anybody’s guess.
Many who believe this to be true say that the popular ET conspiracy theories were purposefully leaked to journalists by the US Government to conceal the Japanese attack, and more importantly their exotic technologies, which the military felt needed to be kept hidden from the American public.
There have been several UFO researchers and independent Roswell investigators who have written about this counter theory involving Japan and believe it to be true or at least treat it very seriously.
For example, the 2005 book Body Snatchers in the Desert: The Horrible Truth at the Heart of the Roswell Story by Nick Redfern emphatically states that there were never any dead alien bodies.
“The crash-site discovery of prototype military aircraft would expose a damning secret,” the intriguing book’s synopsis mentions, “a highly confidential, U.S. government-sanctioned program to conduct medical experiments on deformed, handicapped, disfigured, and diseased Japanese POWs, exploited as "expendable" victims by their captors.”

The book contains quotes from various government insiders including one female whistleblower known only as the Black Widow who apparently worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (a classified military facility in Tennessee) from the mid-1940s until the early 1950s. She claims to have seen the deformed bodies of human subjects and categorically stated they were all Japanese and entirely human not alien.
She claims the Japanese humans had been captured after some kind of crash and had been used for biological and nuclear experiments at the White Sands missile range in southern New Mexico.
“All of the bodies,” Body Snatchers in the Desert quotes the Black Widow as saying, “were Oriental and around five feet in height...several exhibited signs of severe physical handicaps-such as oversized heads and malformed faces and hands-while others had slightly larger and protruding eyes.”
Redfern also writes about several other whistleblowers in his book including; an individual named Levine who worked for the British Government’s Home Office and confirmed the stories of alien bodies were incorrect; another Oak Ridge insiders who claimed they recovered bodies were of Asian origins; a former DIA agent known as the Colonel who claimed to have knowledge of the experimental flying machines in New Mexico at the time and also said that one of his jobs at the DIA was to send out “false UFO stories to the Russians, to the Communists” and also distribute false “sightings of flying saucer landings at military facilities, stories that we had crashed UFOs and bodies of space aliens”.
Redfern, a Brit living in Texas and a best-selling author and journalist, is probably one of the more savvy researchers to investigate the Roswell incident. In forming his hypothesis about the 1947 incident while writing Body Snatchers in the Desert, he accessed thousands of US Government archive documents as well gaining direct access to insiders in British intelligence.
Therefore, his non-extraterrestrial explanation for Roswell cannot be easily dismissed.
Could it really be that most UFO investigators are deceived in their notions about Roswell?
Or were dead alien bodies really found at the mysterious crash site as per the more common conspiracy theory on the incident?
Almost 70 years later the public, and even most independent investigators, seem to be none the wiser in the main. One thing’s for sure: smoking gun-style evidence for Roswell is still proving to be extremely elusive. Much like the JFK assassination, there are now so many theories and counter floating around about Roswell that the truth may very well be impossible to spot in the final analysis.

That said, I don't mind the city of Roswell raking in those sweet tourism dollars. More power to them.

I understand what you're saying, Jim, and partly agree: Roswell has become like the JFK assassination of the UFO movement.
But on the other hand I think Roswell ties in with the early UFO period where there were various interrelated events during late 40s/early 50s in which (apparently) crafts were recovered. So I still think for truthseekers it's worth it to research from the wider perspective of similar events all over the world rather than just Roswell in isolation (which as you imply is probably impossible to work out).

Roswell Alien Slides:
In the first half, live from Mexico City, renowned historians and researchers, Richard M. Dolan (first hour) and Don Schmitt (2nd hour) discussed the mysterious Roswell alien slides ( view), which were revealed to the public during a conference which both had attended earlier in the day. The conference, organized by Mexican journalist and ufologist Jaime Maussan, featured a number of experts, who'd spent months carefully analyzing the two slides. The slides were authenticated to be from the 1940s, and were from the collection of Hilda Ray, a now deceased attorney and pilot, who was married to a geologist, Bernerd Ray, said to be working in the Roswell, New Mexico area in 1947. Further, the Rays were personally acquainted with Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower.
Dolan noted that the experts found the creature depicted in the slides to be anomalous, and though damaged or decomposed it was not mummified. Nor was it believed to be a mammal or human. There is a minor blur in the images, which suggests that the photos were taken quickly or surreptitiously, and one of the last surviving persons said to witness the Roswell creature, stated that the image in the slide looks remarkably like what he saw, Dolan recounted. The slides won't be debunked easily, but neither are they definitive evidence without an actual body, Dolan continued.
The presentation in Mexico City of a medical pathologist demonstrated why the body is not human-- among the anomalies was a missing rotator socket in the shoulder, the incorrect number or ribs, and no breastbone, sternum, or pelvic bone, Schmitt reported. There was evidence that the body had been preserved or frozen at one point, and that the photo may have been taken around six months after the being's demise, Schmitt added.

Interesting David.
You believe it might be a authentic photo?

On 6th of May 2015 , a new set of photos been released related related to the Roswell incident. and there were some pics of a strange body. Some say it's a body of an alien being they found in 1947 and some say its just a mummy.
And if you take most of the UFO sightings , there's one common thing in most of them. A UFO stays in one place for hours and just takes off like a thunderbolt . They can move so fast back and forth in any direction. Its against our aerodynamics. In other worlds, its beyond the technology known to humans. No aircraft we know, can move like that. There're reports of 1000s of UFO sightings every year (some of them are plain hoaxes). People have reported seen UFOs from the time of Jesus and way before that. UFO sightings are recorded in ancient cave paintings, Mayan pyramids, Raphael's paintings etc. I think we cant just neglect these incidents as hoaxes or misinterpretations. Some of them are hoaxes but some of them ain't.

UFO phenomena is real, what it is remains unknown. The article from The Roswell Daily Record is historical interesting but not reliable. It is denied the next day.
Please read the Crash at Cornona for a decent theory and a basic understanding of the case . I posted in message 2. Here it is again; https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
A very interesting short PDF (free) from Russia (in English) does an excellent job of covering many of the questions, disputes and thoughts about Roswell

It has a good bibliography as well.

I don't rule out the possibility that it was some other top secret research program.

I don't rule out the possibility that it was some other top secret research program. ..."
That is a possibility that cannot be ruled out.

Many people say the "grays" who abduct humans exhibit no emotion whatsoever and just go about their duties like robots. So I wonder if the grays are not actually an organic alien species but rather a form of very advanced AI...Somebody told me the grays are actually "biological robots" which while I don't exactly know what that means, I think I understand the gist of the concept at least.
This could tie in with those theories that Japanese prisoners were being experimented on after WW2 around the time of of Roswell...And fit the rumor that it was their (human) bodies not ETs that were found and that the upper reaches of the US military were creating clones or bio robots or cyborgs or something along these lines.
Maybe the grays are created from the technology obtained from earlier crashed UFOs (as there were other reported crashss before Roswell) or maybe they are just very advanced but suppressed man-made technologies.
Interestingly, there have (apparently) been some ET space crashes as early as 1895 in the US. Roswell certainly wasn't the first such rumored crash.
Anyway, just putting this theory out there and not pretending I personally have any answers...
Frustratingly, the UFO phenomenon is all a big mystery we cannot really solve I sense, unless the people who have top-secret military clearances will somehow reveal the truth. Until then, it's really X-Files stuff with as many unresolved plots going on...

I agree there is no "proof" of the above 4 points you list, David. However, there is definitely evidence to varying degrees on all those points you list. Were these things on trial as court cases, lawyers could use those bits of evidence to create cases for and against...So none of those points cannot be instantly dismissed just because there's no absolute proof.

As for reading ALL the authors, I won't live that long.
As for military studies, look how long they covered up Ultra!
I finally believe that we have been visited but we are not "always' being watched. Historical events occur and then linear time moves on. Whatever the cover up that happened in Roswell about 70 years ago, it is time to fess up.
BTW, fun town to visit, but so much of the "conference" is now just commercial junk. The museum is worth visiting. If you in the state of New Mexico, go see that. I have read the latest book on the "Aztec" incident, met one of the authors but it doesn't seem to hold water. I must admit the author was totally convinced.

Sorry David, I wasn't meaning to imply you were dismissing any theories outright. Was just putting forward my thoughts on that list you made.
And I agree with virtually all your thoughts on authors in the UFO field. Guys like Dolan are pretty balanced and seem to remain fairly open-minded.
Like you, I tend to get nervous of authors who are absolutely convinced of a certain theory in a field where absolute evidence is hard if not impossible for any researcher to uncover.

There are a lot of people who can't wrap their heads around that concept. A few years ago, he wrote a book called Final Events about a quasi-governmental think tank that believes aliens are actually demons. A lot of people assumed, therefore, that he was some sort of fundy. He was just telling an interesting story. It's a book I really enjoyed and I'm not any sort of Christian, much less an apocalyptic one.

Oh wait, maybe it is possible!

MO41, The Bombshell Before Roswell” by Paul Blake Smith, ,might well be the most exciting, shocking, and impactful event – and now book subject - not just in American history, but all of human history.
Did three extraterrestrials really crash-land their circular spaceship on a farm just outside of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, in mid-April of 1941? Was this stunning recovery then taken to a secret hiding place beneath perhaps the most recognizable building in the world? Was an aspect of the scientifically examined alien craft’s propulsion system applied to the U.S. nuclear weapons program to help win World War II?
The serious, amazing pre-Roswell claims and quotes, rumors and insights, opinions and documented facts are all examined here, in proper chronological, easy-to-read order, the only book to ever comprehensively explore perhaps the wildest nonfiction story of all time.
The results make up a case that could win in a court of law, or at least in the court of public opinion. You, the reader, decide

Body Snatchers in the Desert: The Horrible Truth at the Heart of the Roswell Story

Connie Willis (email) chatted with author Will Champion about the state
of our current affairs from a unique perspective involving shocking
connections between UFOs, otherworldly beings, and the unelected shadow
government behind the New World Order. Champion spoke about growing up
in Roswell, New Mexico, where "a whole circle of people... told [him]
some stories that just seemed at the time too fantastic to be true and
yet they absolutely were." It was in Roswell where Champion met a
mortician who confirmed wreckage and small bodies were found in 1947 and
brought to the base hospital, where the mortician's girlfriend worked as
a nurse. Her description of the bodies matches what we've come to
understand are grey aliens, he revealed.
Champion outlined details of a war between the corporate government and
the people. The weapon of choice used against the people is codified
law, Champion explained, tracing it to the Code of Hammurabi which he
suggested may have had extraterrestrial origins. According to Champion,
in its ancient past Earth was visited by otherworldly beings who
ultimately fathered "a secret society of ruthless merchant bankers and
big businessmen totally against humanity and bent on complete world
domination." Their goal is to abolish the sovereignty of all nations and
establish one centralized New World Order to rule over all, he disclosed.

From Coast to Coast:
In the latter half, author and researcher L.A. Marzulli shared newly revealed details about the Roswell UFO crash obtained from a deathbed confession, as well as reports of alien abductions, and hybrids among us. He was contacted by a woman named Carolyn who dismantles people's estates, and she said she worked with a "Colonel Hill," who had been an intelligence officer/interrogator during WWII. About a month before he passed away at age 90, he shared details with her about the 1947 Roswell crash. He claimed, Marzulli recounted, that he was flown into Roswell within 24-48 hours of the crash, and was tasked with trying to make contact with one of the surviving entities, which Hill described as having a large head, black eyes, and six fingers.
A witness named Al, who saw UFOs at a young age in Canada, and has had ongoing encounters/abductions since then, told Marzulli that he met a mysterious woman with wrap-around sunglasses, who whispered to him "They're listening... the Grays." She went on to tell him that she'd also been abducted and they were meant to meet. Later, he witnessed her eyes shape-shift, turning black and reptilian-appearing. Marzulli believes that the alien presence is actually interdimensional rather than extraterrestrial, and that they correspond with the malevolent Nephilim or fallen angels described in the Bible. For more, check out a trailer for his documentary series, "The Watchman Chronicles."

The curious object dubbed the 'Roswell Rock' has been stirring up new interest via a YouTube video from SecureTeam10. The anomalous rock was said to be found by Robert Ridge in 2004, partially buried in the desert sand near Roswell.
Coast to Coast covered the topic in a report from Linda Moulton Howe back on the 7/31/08 show, where it was noted that the rock had strange magnetic properties, and its raised design mirrored the pattern of a 1996 crop circle.

In the first half, physicist and UFO investigator Stanton T. Friedman discussed the latest in his UFO research involving science, as well as MUFON, truths about the Roswell incident, government UFO cover-ups, his own personal theories and more. Nuclear fusion, which is the energy of the sun, seems to be a likely energy source for extraterrestrial craft to travel to Earth, he suggested. Friedman continues to be an advocate for the extraterrestrial hypothesis-- that alien beings are using real vehicles with advanced technology to get here from someplace else. The number of exoplanets that might contain life is far exceeding what scientists originally thought, he added.
He recalled his pioneering research into the 1947 Roswell crash, as we approach the 70th anniversary of the incident. In 1978, he interviewed Major Jesse Marcel, who said he accompanied some of the crash debris after it was taken from Mac Brazel's ranch. At the time, the Roswell base was the home of an elite military group, and Marcel was their intelligence officer. Friedman conjectured that some of the crash debris could still be at the Wright Patterson base, today. Another of the many witnesses he interviewed was Glenn Dennis, an undertaker, who said the military called him to ask him about the availability of child-sized caskets shortly after the crash.
------------------------
In the latter half, investigative reporter Paola Harris talked about her research in ufology and detailed some of her conversations with the late great Colonel Philip J. Corso, known for the claims in his book, THE DAY AFTER ROSWELL The Day After Roswell BY Corso, Philip J.(Author)Mass Market Paperbound 01-Jun-1998, that he stewarded ET devices and artifacts in the 1940s, which were back-engineered in order to develop various modern technologies in use today. Harris met with him in Rome in 1998, and found him to be highly credible, and that his military background was exactly as he described it. "Col. Corso told me," said Harris, "that he had seen the autopsies of the bodies, he had seen the craft at Wright Patterson, and he insisted that the extraterrestrial biological entity which he called a clone...was part of the craft and helped fly the craft."
From the alien autopsy, he observed that the being had four brain lobes, two brain implants, one lung, a heart, a different lymphatic system, and a four-fingered hand. Corso also revealed to her that he had a contact experience in 1957, when he was head of a missile base in White Sands. He saw a craft on the desert floor in the process of appearing and disappearing, and a being walked out wearing a helmet with a silver band with a stone in the middle. This November, Harris is producing the Laughlin UFO Conference: Time for Truth, featuring an array of special events and speakers, including our own George Noory.

On this date in 1947, pilot Kenneth Arnold reporting seeing nine UFOs over Mount Rainer, which he described as like "saucers skipping over the water." His sighting kicked off the modern UFO era and led the press to coin the phrase 'flying saucers.' 50 years later on June 24, 1997, the U.S. Air Force issued a 231-page report dismissing the long-standing claims of an ET crash near Roswell, New Mexico. They suggested that recovered bodies were not those of aliens but crash test dummies used in parachute experiments.

Author Sam Kean explains the secret Cold War project behind the infamous 1947 Roswell crash.

A geologist from New Mexico has claimed to have discovered extraterrestrial remnants from Roswell UFO crash site
Metal Found at Roswell Draws Interest from Government Agency https://www.coasttocoastam.com/articl...
A geologist who has unearthed a number of intriguing pieces of material at the Roswell crash site had something of a scare this week when the Bureau of Land Management inquired about his finds. According to a local media report, Frank Kimbler has spent the last eight years making periodic trips out to the location armed with a metal detector in the hopes of picking up something left behind after the infamous 1947 event. As a result of these excursions, he claims to have recovered nearly 20 small metal fragments, which recently caught the attention of the BLM.

AATIP Crew Handled Kimbler Roswell Debris http://ufotrail.blogspot.com/2018/06/...
Samples of debris reportedly recovered by Frank Kimbler at what he believed to be the vicinity of the storied Roswell crash site were provided to Hal Puthoff's Earth Tech and Robert Bigelow's BAASS, each later named as key figures in a Pentagon-funded UFO investigation project in a much discussed Dec. 16, 2017, NYT article. As many are aware, the Times piece described what came to be known as the Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program, among other titles, which reportedly operated from at least 2007 through 2011. A 2011 blog post at The UFO Trail suggested Kimbler provided samples for testing to Puthoff and Bigelow, the latter of which the Times described as directing the modification of buildings in Las Vegas for storing materials recovered from unidentified aerial phenomena. Puthoff informed Kimbler of the availability of funding assistance for possible further testing, according to a 2011 email from Kimbler.

Of all the conspiracy claims surrounding and interrelated with Area 51, one stands out above all others: Roswell.
The Roswell event occurred near Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947 when a mystery craft crashed on a ranch and debris was recovered. That much at least is true. The official explanation – courtesy of the United States Armed Forces – is the debris was the result of a secret US military Air Force surveillance balloon crashing.
Interestingly, the very first official explanation – issued by an Army spokesman – was that the mystery craft was “a flying disc.” That was quickly corrected in an Air Force statement advising that Roswell Army Air Field personnel had recovered a downed weather balloon at the crash site.
Major Jesse Marcel displays remains of the so-called weather balloon after the Roswell crash.
However, it’s the unofficial explanations that most interest us. They obviously interest a lot of others, too: the public at large have been intrigued by the enduring theories the incident spawned – the most prominent being that the mystery craft was in fact a spaceship and that it contained extraterrestrial life.
A 1995 feature-length doco titled The Roswell Incident provides a compelling overview of the incident, inclusive of very persuasive eye-witness accounts. It’s accessible via Top Documentary Films’ website.
Top Documentary Films’ splurge for the doco begins:
“In the summer of 1947, there were a number of UFO sightings in the United States. Sometime during the first week of July 1947, something crashed near Roswell.
“W.W. (Mack) Brazel, a New Mexico rancher, saddled up his horse and rode out with the son of neighbors Floyd and Loretta Proctor, to check on the sheep after a fierce thunderstorm the night before. As they rode along, Brazel began to notice unusual pieces of what seemed to be metal debris, scattered over a large area. Upon further inspection, Brazel saw that a shallow trench, several hundred feet long, had been gouged into the land.”
The doco reports the crash site was quickly sealed off by the military, but not before the discovery of four alien bodies outside a damaged spacecraft – at a second crash site – that was largely intact.
Sounds far-fetched? Many think so. Even a few high profile UFO commentators dismiss the Roswell-related alien body claims as implausible.
Then again, it’s one of the oldest conspiracy theories around and it shows no sign of going away any time soon. One reason for this could be the eyewitnesses who claim, or claimed, to have observed the aftermath of the crash are in the main very credible and convincing.
