2019 Chit Chat - Anything goes
I really enjoy my (limited) involvement in this group. It is the first thing I look at when I log on my computer every morning. (GoodReads is my home page...)
I just want to remind you guys that on January 26th a new lifetime movie is coming on and it’s called love You to Death and it’s on a Saturday night

Christine, what case is the Lifetime movie about?"
Looks like Gypsy, the girl who killed her mother after a lifetime of abuse.

In other True Crime on Lifetime news...Last night, tonight and tomorrow Lifetime is airing a 6 part documentary special on the sex crimes of R&B singer R. Kelly.
I watched the first 2 parts last night and it was extremely disturbing.
QUESTION: Why are some discussions 'closed'? Why are some items marked as "frozen" so that no new comments can be posted?
I just realized there are now two (2) books on Frederick Deeming in the TC library, so I gave him his own shelf. I removed the Original Night Stalker and East Area Rapist shelves; all those books are now under Joseph James DeAngelo.

Because I locked them. If you want to discuss the subject you can start a new discussion or post a link to the subject so I can unlock it.

DO NOT PUT FICTION BOOKS ON THE BOOKSHELVES IN THE TRUE CRIME GROUP.
You know who you are. There will be consequences.

Well, I figured someone had locked or closed them, but my question was WHY do they get locked. I could understand if they were very old with no activity, but a couple of them I looked at (and would have probably commented on) appeared to be fairly new.
I'm very new here and just trying to understand things.

Generally, if a thread is from last year say - 2018 chat thread, I locked that when the year ended. If a thread has 300 posts I will lock it and start a new thread. Also if a thread has not been commented on in a year I will lock it. Can you tell which discussion you mean?

It just makes the vibe of the group less welcoming ... if that even matters to you. I think a friendlier exchange makes for a more vibrant group. Just because our shared obsession is so grim, doesn’t mean the group has to be .. just sayin. "
That's it. I'm out of here.

Lucille wrote: "I feel ya, girl lol ."Thanks, Lucille. I can usually figure things like software and websites out, having worked in HRIS for years, but, for some reason, am struggling a bit to get a full understanding of this one.
I am never comfortable with anything I don't have a good understanding of .... Enquiring minds want to know, ya know?
Now I'm wondering myself. Is there some qualitative difference between closing a discussion and freezing it? I'm now picturing those heads in jars in cryogenic labs...
Nah. Moding another group on here taught me quick that some people are just impossible to please and tend to "fly off the handle", if you will, when things don't go 100% their way.
*offers hugs* Well, if it helps any, I'd like you to stay. Tbh, this is my favorite group, and you've gotta get at least some, if not all, of the credit for that since you're the mod.

I thought so, then got scolded for it.

I don't really believe this, letting personal issues get in the way of being a rational human being.

I'm sorry I upset you. Like a wise woman just told me: "online discussions ... cut out so much information that you need to interpret what the other person is saying ... like tone of voice, facial expression, etc."
I was genuinely confused since I didn't think I had locked any recent threads. Normally threads are locked when there haven't been any new comments in a year or they have reached 300+ comments. The exception is the first of the year when I start new annual threads. 2019 reviews, chats, headlines etc.

Of course no one wants you to leave. Apparently we had someone here that likes drama and just wanted to cause trouble. Havent seen one of those for a long time. Thanks for getting rid of her, Bel. (If it was indeed a female).

Day 21 of pretty much everyone I know either being furloughed or forced to work without pay. Part of my pension check came through on time, the other part was delayed but did eventually show up. Every day I scroll through the reports of criminal activity/damage/vandalism in our national parks and it kills me. Much of this won't be reparable in any time frame that makes sense to human beings, and much of it won't even be discovered until things open up again.
I heard on the radio coming back from my last appt that Congress is frantically signing funding agreements to get various segments of the gummint up and running again. I was amused to hear them say "there have been 10 defections from the Republican Party," as if they were talking about Soviet citizens fleeing the USSR and pleading for asylum in our country.
That's important, because if Mitch McConnell will actually let the bills go to Trump for signature, but Trump vetoes them like he's threatened, there might be enough votes to override the veto.
As a Kentuckian I will tell you that you shouldn't depend on Mitch to do anything. He is useless. #DitchMitch!
The one I'm reading now, Guilty By Popular Demand: A True Story of Small-Town Injustice, makes a fine addition to the Paranormal shelf. Weirdness on every page.

OK, that sounds pretty noxious even to me.
