I started a new book on Jan 1, and finished The Dog Who Knew Too Much on Jan 3.

Love Chet the Jet! (This is book 4 in the series)

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 160 comments I started Someone to Care (A Westcott Novel book #4) and I'm halfway through it. Loving this series by Mary Balogh.

PennyD (goodreadscomgreymowser) | 6 comments Happy New Reading!
Got a number of books for Christmas. Some new and some secondhand. Am starting a book called 'Monet Talks' by Tamar Myers. It is a Den of Antiquity mystery.
I picked up a used book because I had never read it in college by Gertrude Stein called 'The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas.' Peeved to find that someone had underlined and wrote in it. I don't want someone else's opinion on the book or author as I read it so I might just toss it in the welfare pile.

It's 2021! This has GOT to be a better year than 2020 ....

Hope you are all safe and enjoying some reading time. We're having snow today ... fat, wet, beautiful flakes. Just took a little drive to the convenience store and passed the village sledding hill ... COVERED with kids and families trying out their new Xmas sleds / tubes / dishes / snowboards. Just made my heart happy to watch them for a bit.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well, the year is half over. How did that happen so fast?!

Hoping many of you are fully vaccinated and able to return to a "new" normal.

I met up with a couple of friends from the Play Book Tag group (originally on Shelfari) last weekend for lunch!

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 160 comments That's good to hear, we are finally coming out of our shells. Hopefully this new freedom will last. I would love to meet with some booklovers that happen to be in Boston.

I'm looking forward to going to the Copley tea room and discussing A Thread of Grace with a few of my co-workers. I still miss the wooden Shelfari bookcase.

message 22: by LibraryCin (new)

LibraryCin | 196 comments I get my 2nd shot tomorrow. Looking forward to it!

Things reopened completely here today. Personally, I feel like it's too soon. I would have liked to see things reopen first, give it a few weeks, then decide on getting rid of masks.

Masks still required on public transit, though (whew!), and in care homes. I think that's it. Oh... in our city, they are still requiring masks inside for a few more days.

Julie (julielill) | 33 comments Glad to hear from some of the former Shelfarians. My library is open almost fully. We are still closed Sundays but we will open on Sunday when schools go back.

riley rue (rileyrue) Hi there everyone! I just joined the group in hopes of reconnecting with some former Shelfarians, and I wanted to pop in and say hi. It's nice seeing so many people who used to love Shelfari as I did. :)

Hi, Riley Rue. Was that your name on Shelfari as well?

As for COVID updates ... got my Pfizer booster two weeks ago. Feeling so much better about dining out and going to the theatre again now.

message 26: by LibraryCin (last edited Oct 17, 2021 11:18AM) (new)

LibraryCin | 196 comments Ha!
And looking at my comment from July 1, it was definitely too soon to reopen (I think the only people who didn't think that was our government and our chief medical officer (who I really think is just having her strings pulled by the government...). (And deniers)

(I'm in Alberta, Canada.) We're in the middle of a horrible 4th wave, even though many are fully vaccinated. It's Delta + primarily the unvaccinnated keeping this going.

Worse, many people without covid have had surgeries cancelled, so staff and beds can be used in the ICU for all the covid patients.

Luckily, there are finally some restrictions back in place. Many places now (though it's not provincially-government mandated) are asking for proof of vaccination, etc.

Hi Book Concierge, no, I originally went by "Star" on Shelfari! I was very young, so that was the case. I remember seeing you in book club groups around on Shelfari, and it's amazing how I'm now getting to know you. Is there a name that you prefer being called?

I'm so sorry, it's sad that covid seems to be never-ending. Hopefully, the new restrictions put in place have some kind of effect towards preventing the spread.

Lots of love to everyone. We're in this together!

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 160 comments I still miss that wooden bookshelf. It feels good to reconnect by reading these comments.

I have also received my booster shot and have been dining out. Have not gone to the theatre yet. I am retired and hope to do some traveling.

Hi, Dosha! Good to see you here!

I have season tickets to a dinner theatre here, so (even though I wasn't necessarily ready!) I have been there a couple of times since we reopened. Less so to restaurants - only once inside because it was too cold to stay outside that day.

riley rue (rileyrue) I miss the wooden bookshelf as well! Life has changed so much now. I try not to go to restaurants as much too, except for a couple of times outside, but it is getting colder to dine outdoors now :(

Dosha ... what did you go see?

Hubby and I went to the opening of our regional musical theatre - The Full Monty .... what a joy to experience live theatre again!

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 160 comments Hey BC, you are so right! It was pure joy to sit in the theatre again.

A longtime friend and I went to see the play Witch. It was good enough for me to be glad I went to see it, but I wouldn’t want to see it again.

The devil has a hard time getting the witch to sell her soul to him. All other characters are easy it the witch is not. They end up having an affair. It was cute.

The experience of live theatre is irreplaceable!

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 160 comments Exactly, BC. During the height of covid around my neck of the woods, there was a drive for folks to go to the virtual theatre. 🤷🏽‍♀️ No thanks, I’d rather watch a movie. And virtual art museums were being offered also. Nope, I’ll wait. I'm glad I did. Thank God for books, in any form, lol.

So how is everyone's reading year going?

I can't believe it's almost October ... and the last quarter of the year.

My reaading has slowed due to the press of other issues in real life. I'll still get to at least 150 books read, but that's down from my usual 165-180. On the plus side, I seem to have had more 5-star reads this year, so YAY. (Or maybe in my old age, I'm getting easier in my grading.... whatever.)

I'm about to go on a vacay to Yellowstone. I've never been and a friend I went to Mt Rushmore with two years ago, gave me the chance to pick the national park this time.

And when I get back I'll attend the musical Waitress at the Skylight Music Theatre!. So glad the theatre season is back in swing!

message 50: by Linda (new)

Linda | 57 comments Hi y’all, I’ve reached my goal this year. I’ve read 44 new authors a benefit of GR reviews. I’ve had 3 or four reading slumps, thankfully they didn’t last! I’ve read some great 5 start books. My goal every year is clean out my Kindle library, the problem is I can’t pass up a bargain. Hope all of you are doing well!
