Ellen | 3574 comments Twelve-year-old Sadie Kane and her fourteen-year-old brother Carter have been separated for many years except for twice yearly visits. After the death of their mother, Sadie lived with her grandparents in London while Carter traveled the world with his Egyptologist father, Dr. Julius Kane. During a Christmas Eve visit Julius takes his children to the British Museum for a private tour. Julius, however, has a secret motive; he blows up the Rosetta Stone and becomes trapped in a coffin that sinks into the floor. Julius has awakened 5 Egyptian gods and now Sadie and Carter are left to deal with them. Their goal is to rescue their father but their quest becomes much larger: they must save the world from evil Set's red pyramid being built by demons in Phoenix. Along the way they are helped by several beneficent gods, thwarted by some truly imaginative beings, and they learn their family history of magic which seems to have passed down to them.

My inner 12-year-old would give this 5 stars but at my advanced age I will settle for 4. It was fun with a lot of humor and so creative. I did have a hard time keeping up with all of the magical characters and Egyptian gods but I can see how appealing this series is to youngsters. I don't know that I will continue the series but maybe some day.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12835 comments It does sound very fun! Going on my list of books for my grand niece! I take it is good for a 11-12 yr old?

Rachel N. | 2265 comments I enjoyed this trilogy. At times it felt like Riordan was trying to throw every Egyptian god possible into the story but otherwise the books were fun. I think the series would be fine for an 11-12 year old Joanne.
