This is going to be the official thread to discuss this book!

So far I'm flying through it and it reminds me of Swan Song and The Stand. Might be overdoing it will all the big post apocalyptic books all in a row lol

Casey | 11 comments When I opened my digital copy and saw 1,360 pages I just about had a heart attack, but it's only four days later and I'm 900 pages in and flying through. I was worried I might struggle or find it a real slog and not finish in January, but man, in the next few days I'll be done. Then I'll just have to get The Twelve!

message 3: by Veronique (new)

Veronique | 5 comments im going through it a bit slow because I only have it on my phone and I'm not used to reading on my phone. plus I need to study for my exams
but I have set a goal for myself to read 45 ebookpages per day and then I should have finished it by the end of the month

currently at chapter 8 and I'm really intrigued

Rana Fathi (booksandbeehives) | 1 comments I wasn’t actually considering reading jt until an hour ago. I got the book on my phone and I’m already 110 pages in, I guess I’m not sleeping tonight.

message 5: by Justine (new)

Justine (justinedanielreads) | 4 comments I just started the book at 2am this morning (I live in the PH) and Im really liking it! I flew through the first two chapters so easily because I was so invested to the story. I was so scared of reading it but I think I can manage to finish it :)

message 6: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (i_dream_of_books) | 3 comments I read this when it was released in 2010 and loved it. I listened to it as an audiobook last year and it was just as good as I remember. Now I need to reread The Twelve and finally read City of mirrors and I’ll be set 😊

message 7: by Carlos (new)

Carlos | 4 comments Wow just finished it! Did a 24 readthon with my wife and finished this book! Very interesting can’t wait to hear everyone thoughts on it!

message 8: by Kylie (new)

Kylie I bought my copy today so I'm a little behind, but two chapters in I'm enjoying it! This series has been on my tbr for ages.

Kaitlyn (ktxx22) Walker (ktxx22) Read this book earlier in 2018 and absolutely loved it!! I’m looking forward to continuing the series this year! Can’t wait to see your review!!

message 10: by Carlos (new)

Carlos | 4 comments Roma I feel like the audiobook is easy to follow for the most part. In the beginning I had to listen at 1.5 speed but I was able to increase the speed pretty early on.

Casey | 11 comments Gidget wrote: "I want to see at least the first episode of the show based off the book so I might just have to read the book. It's so big I'm a bit nervous. It's been awhile since I've read a huge book."

Apparently the tv series is pretty loosely based and will be much slower than the book (they've spoken about how the first book would probably cover three seasons of tv which personally is dragging it out a little but thats what tv, esp american tv, likes to do) and various characters have been changed around a little or a lot and from what I've read of the series, massively changed one characters arc to a point I can't quite recognise it.
I was super intimidated when I started reading it - my digital copy was 1,340 pages, but its four days later and I've finished it! Couldn't put it down, so don't get discouraged by the size, it really sails by and because it's broken into parts, it never feels like it drags.

I couldn't put it down and have instantly started The Twelve. Can't wait to hear people's thoughts on the books and characters

message 13: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (voraa91) | 4 comments I read this book a couple of years ago but I never got around to finishing the series. I remember I really loved it so I'm not sure why I never moved on to book two. But I did get copies of the whole series this year so I'm looking forward to rereading The Passage and finally reading the rest! I'll be starting my reread tonight!

message 14: by denis_kujan (new)

denis_kujan | 5 comments I am waiting to get this book from my library, there is nobody reading it now they just need to transfer it from one branch to another and maybe this is not happening until the end of the month sooo... 😂😂

message 15: by Ceyda (new)

Ceyda (pondlocked) | 5 comments I just finished the fourth chapter and still nothing makes sense, I'm curious to find out what is happening and when everything is gonna start to connect with each other.

message 16: by Manon (new)

Manon (manonvdp) I’ve started listening to it this week and so far I’m intrigued! I do notice I need to take my time with it as there are quite a lot of characters with lots of different storylines

message 17: by Carla (new)

Carla (raening) | 3 comments I am using Scribd and there's only the abridged version of the audiobook. Would that be considered cheating? lol

same thing happened to me. Not gonna lie, for the first like 100 pages i was kinda lost but then everything starts to make sense.
Also i had to get used to the author's writing style and super long sentences.

message 20: by Nadja (new)

Nadja (nadja_13) | 1 comments I started reading the book a few days ago but I haven't really had that much time to read so I'm only about 80 pages in but I'm enjoying it so far. There really is a lot going on and I don't ye t know how everything fits together but I'm curious to find out :)

message 21: by Kat (new)

Kat (kittysbooksandtea) I am 214 pages into this book and as i have books from the library due back soon I’m concentrating on those for the most part but i an reading about 100 pages of this a day until all the books that are due back have been read and i gotta say it is different from my usual reads but i am absolutely loving this book so far!! It is definitely making me want to go out and buy the next 2 books

message 22: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I struggled through the first 105 pages. I'm thinking about putting it down but everyone here seems to be really enjoying it...

message 23: by Christine (new)

Christine | 3 comments Ceyda wrote: "I just finished the fourth chapter and still nothing makes sense, I'm curious to find out what is happening and when everything is gonna start to connect with each other."

Honestly, I'm on Part VIII now and, although the story is pretty interesting for me, it is only now that everyone is together and the story seems to be moving forward

message 24: by Karen (new)

Karen | 32 comments I like the story so far - I'm only about a little over a hundred pages in - but, and I'm showing my age here, the small print is slowing me down and I can only read in small bursts. It definitely has my interest though, so I'll keep taking tiny bites at a time.

Honestly, that's what I ended up doing! I finished the first book in four days (after being so scared I'd barely get through in the month of Jan), instantly started The Twelve when I finished The Passage and am about 60% through it and bought City Of Mirrors too!

message 26: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13 comments I am 171 pages in, I’m really intrigued and want to keep reading but it’s starting to creep me out and I woke up a dozen times last night. Ugh!! I can’t watch apocalyptic movies of any kind, especially with a disease or zombie/predator. I hope I can finish this book but I don’t want to lose sleep or mess with my brain like this lol I am not scared of zombies or vampires etc but my imagination goes into overdrive and I can’t relax. It’s like the fight or flight response gets activated and then pair it with a sleepy brain = restlessness and anxiety

message 27: by Justine (new)

Justine (justinedanielreads) | 4 comments I finished the Part I and its so good so far! There were times where I felt like it was a chore reading it but after pushing myself for a few chapters, I am now so invested! So to anyone that is struggling getting into it, just keep reading! I swear it gets sooooooo much better :)

Let's both agree we're not cheating then lol

message 29: by Veronique (new)

Veronique | 5 comments I just finished part 2 and right now im absolutely getting into it
in the beginning I had some struggles with some of the writing but now when more is happening I'm far more intrigued

Marine Picamoles | 2 comments I just picked up the book today, I hope I can catch up ! :)

message 31: by Miranda (new)

Miranda | 19 comments Finished and rated 4 stars. I used audible on my way to work. I did find it captivating however I would have enjoyed a little bit more action 😊

message 32: by Marisa (new)

Marisa | 1 comments I'm using Scribd and it's not available to me until Feburary 1st. So I'll be a month late with this one but I am excited to give it a shot!

You can read it from here :)

message 34: by Aeryn (new)

Aeryn Just got the book today so I will try to catch up to everyone. From the comments it seems like everyone is just flying through it! Looking forward to starting tomorrow !!!

message 35: by Lucy (new)

Lucy (lulucybe) Finished the book tonight ☺️ I think I’ll give it a 4⭐️ I enjoyed the writing & the characters. The plot was different to many books I’ve read which are typically high fantasy rather than post-apocalyptic. I’m looking forward to continuing the series and learning more about the world and what happens next.

message 36: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wmaresca) My copy just came in the mail on Friday, excited to get started

message 37: by Ingeborg (new)

Ingeborg (idokken) | 4 comments I DNF’d the book at 50%. Personally, I just don’t care about any of the characters and I found it a bit boring. It was not for me! Hopefully next months book will suit me better!

message 38: by Denise (new)

Denise (denisenvl) I just finished the first chapter and I'm crying. I'm really sensitive and I get really attached to the characters and that was a really heavy beginning. I hope the rest is more action because I don't know if my heart can take it otherwise, hahaha.

Charlene - Coffee and a Book (coffeeandabook) | 3 comments I just finished the book and, wow, was it intense. There were times when it was a bit sluggish, but then other times I couldn't put it down because so much was happening! So glad I picked this one up!

message 40: by Carina (new)

Carina | 2 comments I just got mine in the mail this weekend and started it today. So far I’m enjoying it, but the size of it is quite intimidating as the German version that I’m reading has over a 1000 pages... Definitely not a book for binge reading!

message 41: by Niki (new)

Niki | 1 comments Just started reading today and I'm 100 pages in - oh boy, this is tough to get through! The actual story has piqued my interest and I'm finding it hard to put down so I can actually get to sleep for work in the morning, but all the heartache in the first 100 pages is tough!

exactly! it is hard to put down.. I just started recently (like 50 pages in) and at the end of each chapter I am having a small hearth attack ... :D

CM Denise wrote: "I just finished the first chapter and I'm crying. I'm really sensitive and I get really attached to the characters and that was a really heavy beginning. I hope the rest is more action because I do..."

I cried in the first chapter too. That was probably the worst one though. There are a couple more emotional parts but not like that.

I’m a little hesitant on it but hopefully it’s good!

message 47: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Sheppard | 1 comments I cried after I read the first chapter. I am on chapter 4 now ,I can’t wait to see how all these story lines connect.

Magnus Iskander Reim (magnusiskanderreim) | 33 comments I'm not doing the buddy read with you guys since I've read this book a few years ago but I have really good (if quite jarring) memories of it. If you get on to reading the second book, The Twelve, I'll definitely read it with you.

Sarah Carlos wrote: "Anybody going to watch the show based on this book tonight?!?"

I'm struggling with the book. I'm thinking about DNF'ing it. I'll watch the first episode, if it holds my attention I'll try again to continue the book before moving onto episode 2
