If you have read Dan Brown’s previous books, then you will not be disappointed. Like the four previous novels in the Robert Langdon series, the principal theme in Origin is religion. Professor Langdon is an intellect gifted with eidetic memory and an encyclopedic knowledge of signs, symbols, and the history of art. In the previous books, Langdon comes face to face with a historical religious mystery, confronts evildoers with massive powers at their disposal, and defeats them all. And of course as with every book he as an intelligent, gorgeous woman aiding him in this endeavor.⠀

Origin is set almost exclusively in Spain, primarily in Bilbao, Madrid, and Barcelona. The story is fast-moving and suspenseful, which are essential elements in any Dan Brown thriller. I this story the Langdon’s former student, Edmond Kirsch attempts to explain the mystery: Where do we come from? Where are we going? Billionaire scientist-entrepreneur Kirsch has discovered what he believes to be the answers to these questions. Then he is shot, and the adventure begins.⠀

This novel is frequently punctuated with elements to explain the religious, scientific, and historical facts that Brown always weaves into his tales, and as always he does it very well. Origin was a good book, but slightly heavy on the computer, technical side. Brown’s fans might be a bit disappointed as the normal ties to religious antiquity is missing, but this was a good read. ⠀

Holly R W | 3394 comments I remember reading Dan Brown's first book in the series and seeing the movie. It's been awhile, but I remember being fascinated by the story. I'm so glad that you enjoyed this latest book in the series. So, Professor Langdon is still at it!

He is definitely still at it.:)

Jason Oliver | 3526 comments I enjoy this series very much. I worry about Langdons mental health with all the concussions though. Haha.

Side note, Dan Brown is offering writing classes.
