I forgot the title of an novel (or an antology of short stories) that had the following plot. An old lady couldn't be any longer with her sons, so they put her in a home (with a better name, but an asile). They promise not to sell her house, but they do it anyway. And she scapes from the retirement home and nobody can find her.
I don't know if it is the same story, but there's something about a painting of a cow SO horrible that she and her son (or grandson) have a laugh about it. And he arranjes to visit the painter with her. Maybe in Paris. Probably in Paris. They live near Paris.
