Yay! Good to see you Andrew!

Steph | 2 comments Currently reading through WoT for the first time so definitely excited for this!

jess (nu6586) | 1729 comments Steph, are you just startig by reading New Spring, or are you reading it after book 10?

Steph | 29 comments Hoping that this one moves along and nice that it is short at about 400 pages, we will have some time to read other stuff before Knife in Sept. Yay

Andrew | 653 comments I read the first chapter tonight. I think I will likely read about a chapter per day, rather than rushing through it. I remember there being some interesting little nuggets in this one and I want to absorb it all. Plus, other books are beckoning at the same time.

Kris | 343 comments I have started this one today :) I have read the whole of WoT, but never read New Spring for some reason. I am somewhere in chapter 4 at the moment and I am really enjoying it so far!

Andrew | 653 comments It is a fun one, Lola! Much shorter the the rest of the series, with more compact writing and a lot of interesting backstory. I'm up to chapter 5 and enjoying it just as much as the first time I read it.

message 11: by jess (new) - rated it 3 stars

jess (nu6586) | 1729 comments I hope to start this by Tuesday night!

Steph | 29 comments Almost halfway done already. I actually like this one as the writing seems tighter- no skirt smoothing or braid tugging as yet! We have been at this series for a while and it is nice to have a shorter book, though many I k ow would still consider it long at 400+pages. I like doorstops as some call them. It feels like you really k ow the characters and places that way.

Kris | 343 comments I am on chapter 20 now and Andrew and Steph, you're right! The writing is a bit less flowery. I like it quite a bit!
Funny thing is that read Elantris a couple of weeks ago and Sanderson's writing reminded me of Jordan's style without the over the top descriptions - this book is more like Sanderson 😂

jess (nu6586) | 1729 comments I started today and read the first chapter. I am glad we still have some people reading this! After 10 books, we lost a LOT of people.
Looking forward to a shorter, interesting prequel!

They're all quitters and not even close to as cool as those of us that have stuck with the series :)

message 16: by Kris (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kris | 343 comments Just finished it - I really enjoyed this one. The writing was less elaborate and repetitive and there was only one mention of tugging a braid! Of course, the fact that we only have two perspectives helps a lot :)

I gave it 5 stars, though I would say it is about 4.5 for me really.

And yay for all of us sticking with the series!

jess (nu6586) | 1729 comments Im in Ch 5. I keep having to remind myself that this is Moiraine, not Egwene. They are very similar. Had any of you picked up on that? Egwene is a green, though, if I remember correctly.

Im also enjoying the faster pace to this novel.

😂😂

Steph | 29 comments Just finished...I finally enjoyed a book in the series! LOL. I am not a quitter after coming this far and will continue to read the series. And I have time to read some other stuff now as I finished so fast.

message 22: by jess (new) - rated it 3 stars

jess (nu6586) | 1729 comments I have 100 pages left, and it is fine. Sometimes though I feel as if In reading fanfic. Because it is so much faster paced and a microcosm of the world; with 2 POVs.

BUT it is interesting to see how Moiraine got interested in Rand’s journey!

Andrew | 653 comments Finished, and I really really liked it. First time reading it back in 2016 I rated it 4*. This time I bumped it up to 5*. Things contributing to the 5* rating:
-Really appreciated the pacing. It was the perfect balance of detail vs efficiency.
-Loved seeing Moraine and Siune as Accepted and young Aes Sedai.
-Great explanation of how Moraine got started on her quest to find the Dragon Reborn. It seemed plausible, and clearly articulated why she was on a path that no other Aes Sedai knew about.
-And of course, seeing Lan and Moraine meet and begin their relationship as warder/Aes Sedai was awesome.

Prequels can be tricky things, especially something like this where literally the whole point of the story is known in advance if you've read the main series. I thought this was perfectly executed. *Slow clap*

jess (nu6586) | 1729 comments Hello! I finally finished. It was good, but just good. I felt like Lan’s character differed a lot from the main series. Maybe getting his viewpoint was just detrimental to his brooding, fierce nature that I gathered from the first 10 books. Wish Id read this first and maybe that would make sense.

message 25: by Gary (new) - rated it 5 stars

Gary Sundell | 105 comments Finally got to this and finished listening/reading it for the third time, if you count the original shorter version in the Legends anthology.

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments I liked it a lot! Loved the friendship between M and S, and it gave you a sense of how long they have been looking for The Dragon Reborn and how much they had to sacrifice for their quest...

Gary Sundell | 105 comments Next up for me is The Path of Daggers, however I have other stuff I want to read before that. In the fantasy genre, I have Imager by L.E. Modesitt Jr., King Javan's Year and The Bastard Prince by Katherine Kurtz lined up as my next 3 reads.

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments I have always wanted to read the Imager series... Is there a BR for it?

message 29: by Gary (new) - rated it 5 stars

Gary Sundell | 105 comments I don't think I have ever seen a BR for any of Modesitt's series or Kurtz's either.

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments Hm... We should have to do something about it, eventually...

I also have Recluse 1 near the top of my TBR.

Choko (chokog) | 12597 comments We should check if someone else is interested and start a BR for either one of those...
