White Boy Rick

Finally saw this. This movie was NOT a ray of sunshine in my life. You could tell it was made authentically -- the neighborhoods were clearly in my hometown and it was impossible to miss the sooty, overcast look that nobody filming in Detroit is able to defeat using any trick of cinematography. The story itself was overcast, dank and depressing. Small inaccuracies in the local color and the local customs made me question how many larger ones might lurk in this movie.I now do feel I understand -- more or less -- how it all went down and why Ricky Wershe's supporters cried conspiracy... but the real conspiracy I glimpsed in the movie was in the list of Detroit movers and shakers White Boy Rick brought down with him. I was astounded to see Gil Hill hustled away in handcuffs. Gil Hill! Why not arrest Coleman Young while you're at it!
I came away feeling Rick was indeed given the old shaft but it sounds as if somehow he rose above it, at least in his own mind. And that's probably where it really counts.

I have tried to rent this but every copy was out. It certainly makes the movie sound promising!
