Thistle entered the building with a scarf tied tightly around her neck and a thermos of coffee in hand to keep her warm. She really shouldn't have gotten coffee this morning; her body was very sensitive to caffeine, but she had run out of the hot tea she kept stashed in the breakroom in the lab she worked in. Hopefully, some day, she would run her very own lab, and though the idea was thrilling, it was also a major source of sleepless nights. She knew her way around her lab and all the equipment, but she didn't have the first clue how to manage money and struggled greatly with any sort of administrative tasks. Plus, she didn't really have the right skill set to deal with people either, but she would have to be charming and charismatic to make contacts and get funding for her projects. The entire situation gave her a headache, and though the caffeine would probably only make it worse, she took several long sips as she approached the front desk. She'd made several appointments with Auxton Xenothi's secretary to meet with him but had never had the courage to get this far until today. She checked in, was given a temporary security clearance, and took the elevator up to the balcony. Apprehensively, she stepped out and joined Auxton on the balcony, her low heels barely clicking on the floor. She'd dressed a bit nicer than usual, wearing an emerald green dress to her knees that brought out the green in her eyes and small, black heels. Her hair was neatly pulled into a side braid, and gold chain rested on her neck with a glass pendant. "Mr. Xenothi, I'm Thistle Attaina, the head of research at Vanir Labs." She started, hoping that the CEO wouldn't see right through her calm facade and into the pit of nervousness in her stomach. "You run one of the top companies in the city, and we - Vanir Labs - would like to further develop your technology. Everything moves so quickly, and in order to stay above the competition, you need to stay a step ahead of everyone else. But, I'm sure you know this already. I've helped engineer several new energy sources and technologies, and I would personally be overseeing all the research myself. Vanir truly is the best. We have state-of-the-art equipment that isn't available to most labs for months, and our scientists and researchers are of the highest caliber. Indeed, we may become the top research lab by the end of the year, and I know that you accept only the best as your colossal success has demonstrated." She paused to take another sip of coffee before wrapping things up. "With all that said, on behalf of my superiors on the board, we'd very much love it if you considered doing business with us." She looked over the balcony, feeling a little dizzy. She gripped the rail tightly to stabilize herself and straightened up. "The view certainly is lovely..." She remarked, though she didn't look down at the shorter buildings below again.
Thistle nodded, playing with her fingers behind her back to release some nervous energy. "I'm sorry." She apologized, this time being genuine and sincere. "They don't usually send me to meet with potential clients. I'm normally just running things in the lab, but since you're a much more prestigious client, my superiors thought I should meet with you myself since I would be in charge of all the research. And if you like, you can just call me Thistle. 'Miss Attaina' makes me sound older than I already am." She added, an actual smile ghosting across her lips. But Thistle wasn't old, especially not in her field. Most of the other scientists with the knowledge and expertise she had were much older than her. In the labs, many of the researchers working under her were a good five to ten years older than her.
"Let's discuss business." Thistle replied, following him to the table. She set her thermos of coffee down on a coaster and sat down nervously in a chair by the fire to stay warm. She'd never done this before and was just praying that she didn't say anything stupid. For someone with her degrees, she wasn't particularly smart when it came to dealing with and talking to other people. She was used to working late nights and early mornings alone in the lab; her people skills sorely needed some polishing. "This is very beautiful." She remarked, admiring the table and fireplace.
