It automatically made me think of Carrier of the Mark but that was released in 2011 and has different cover (though it did start life as on a writing website before that). I thought I say in case.
Jessica wrote: "Maybe The Riddles of Epsilon by Christine Morton-Shaw?"Oh, my goodness. That was it! I've spent years, literally, trying to find this book! I've been to countless libraries, bookstores, and spoken with several different people trying to parse this out. But no one and nothing seemed to know what I was talking about.
This is so amazing. This book was one of my favourite reads and I was devastated I could never find it after I returned it. I cannot thank you enough! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to offer your guesses. Both of those books sound interesting, and I'm thinking of giving them a read, so thank you for the recommendations! This question has been solved by Miss Jessica, whom I thank again. And if anybody is interested, give it a read! It's quite good, And not to mention creepy~!
Thank you all again, and have a great time reading!

It was about a young girl, who had possibly moved to a new town (perhaps in Ireland?) and decided to explore the area. After a while of looking around, she found these symbols that were kind of like runes. (I think, possibly, she first found them on a rock or near an old lighthouse?) And this thing was following her around, a dark shape, trying to stop or help her. I can't remember which.
I also believe it had something to do with the "keys" or a "seal" of Solomon?
The cover was fairly plain. Black, with yellow lettering on the front? Maybe some blue?
I apologise for the lack of details, but if anyone knows what I'm talking about or could help me find this book, it'd be much appreciated.
