Play Book Tag discussion

This was a reread for me, which is very rare, and surprisingly, I did not enjoy the book as much as the first time. I think this partly due to the fact that I have increased my knowledge in quantum mechanics and astronomy so that those chapters seemed very elementary.

A Short History of Nearly Everything is just that. The brief explanation of the history of different scientific fields and how we have come to the conclusions about the earth, space, atoms, fossils, other planets, and the universe as a whole.

I still enjoyed the book, just it didn't have the same spark for me from when I first read it.

I do recommend this book for anyone that wants an overview of science as a whole. Bryson developed the idea for this book by thinking, "How salty is the ocean? Is it getting more salty or less? Is it important how salty the ocean is?" "This is the only planet I will ever live on and I know nothing about it." Those thoughts lead to A Short History of Nearly Everything.

My whole family (husband, two teens, self) listened to this on audio during a road trip from Michigan to Colorado some years ago, and we enjoyed it immensely.

I agree, Jason; it's great as an overview of science history.
