Hi, this General Chat thread has 149 comments, of which I can only see 43/44. And it's the same on the next section 213 comments of which only half are visible. I was looking for a comment by Katariina Kottonen, but can't find - registered on my notifications??
This is a new chat thread which nobody has commented in before, Laura. I haven’t had any such notification; perhaps a Goodreads error?
I had two notes from KK, one from her review and one linking her name to Women of the World - but yes gone now. How odd?
And the 100 odd comments missing from this section. It seems a pity to delete comments. I was reading a chat - which I found interesting and left momentarily only to return to nothing?
Another 58 comments missing from Group Reads - again a pity to just delete. Peoples opinions are valid and interesting - dissenting all the more so. But no harm unless the comments attack the person, rather than the argument or book?
Just to let you know that I’m going on holiday next Monday, so I won’t be around for ten days or so - however long it takes for the jet lag to leave me! I will be creating the March discussion threads as normal, and sending out our monthly email before I go. I hope everyone has a good couple of weeks.
I'm not going to be around much over the next couple of weeks, as I have a lot on. I will still try and post as much as I can. I hope that everyone has a lovely April.
I can not believe that it is almost April. Is there still snow on the ground where ever it is everyone comes from? I'm impressed that this year we may actually get Spring, rather then second winter Newfoundland sometimes tends to get. I still see now but I see grass and the sun has warmth to it. It's still coldish but it feels and smells like Spring.
Same here, Carrie! We haven't had much snow in Scotland this year, just a few flurries. It's very cold though. I'm crossing my fingers that you get some spring warmth soon.
The group seems very slow at present win regards to commenting and such. Does anyone have any ideas as to how we can make it pick up a bit?
I'll toss out some ideas from things that are in other active groups.Challenges, be it long or mini
Book recommendations/pick if for me's
Monthly theme reads (different genres/seasonal)
Polls
I don't know if any of the above will interest you or others but I figured I'd post it.
Fantastic; thanks so much, Carrie! I definitely want to put a challenge in place for the Women in Translation Month, but I'm not sure quite which shape this will take yet. It takes place in August, which is when I'm likely to be moving, so I'm actually not sure I'll be able to take place in an active way.
Are there any particular mini challenges which you particularly would like to see? I did start a book recommendations thread, but have had no takers yet. I really like the idea of monthly theme reads (perhaps we could make these bi-monthly?).

Bi monthly theme reads could work, as for mini challenge ideas, I'll have a think on it and come back later. Hopefully other's in the group will have some suggestions themselves.
Just to let you know that I'm going to be going on holiday this coming weekend, so I'll be away from the group for a week and a half or so. I hope everyone is having a lovely start to May so far.
I'm going to be moving in early July, so will not be able to be very active on the group. I'll be creating all of the discussion threads for July and August now, so that everything is in place in case it takes a long while for me to get the Internet installed.
Thanks so much, Terry! I’ll try and drop in from time to time, but can’t promise that it will be very often.
I've just been watching Stephen Fry in America, on Netflix. It is very good, though some sections are too brief, and one or two perhaps too long. One hilarious section is when Stephen visits the western-movie studio and has a gunfight with the sheriff and his deputies.
I love anything with Stephen Fry! The book accompaniment to the series is fascinating; I would highly recommend it. Have you read his two newest books about Greek mythology?
I didn't know there was a book accompaniment! I'll read it as soon as possible. No I haven't read his mythology books, though I am always tempted to buy them when I see them. Do they offer much beyond the usual English translation of, say, Ovid's Metamorphoses?
His mythology books aren’t focused on any particular work; rather, they’re more of an overview, with lots of different stories within them. In true Fry style, they are hilarious. I’ve read and loved both of them, and would highly recommend them.
They sound interesting. And I do love mythology and Fry's writing. I'll give both those books a read once I've cut down the TBR a bit.
Just a note to say that I'm going to be moving this coming weekend, so I won't be able to post for a while.
I had to move last fall and in so doing had to give up about half of my books. I tried to donate all those I knew I would never read again and which had no personal value, and were most easily replaceable. But it was still difficult to pack them in boxes and watch someone carry them away. Anyone else experience this? I imagine so.
Thankfully I've not had to experience that so far, as my Mum is happy to store my books for the time being. I can imagine it's rather heart-wrenching.
