Evan Hansen is just your average teenage boy, except he is highly socially awkward and a misfit in society. Evan Hansen has never really had any friends his whole life, well if you include Jared but he’s just a family friend, otherwise Evan has never really fit into society or with others. Evan really only talks to his therapist or his mother, which is not the most amazing thing if your mother contently nags at you to get out there and present yourself to others, or if your therapist makes you write letters to yourself every day. When Evan just finished his letter in the library one day and had printed it, Connor another misfit, had taken the letter, and from there Evan had no idea how his life would change. After Connor had committed suicide, Connor’s parents had found Evan’s letter thinking it was Connors suicide note, and from there everything exploded into lies, lies, and even more lies. When Evan fails to tell Connor’s parents that the letter was his, he had convinced them that he and Connor were best friends. And from there on everything was about to change, and maybe it was not for the best.

Dear Evan Hansen, is definitely an astonishing young adult story, trust me if you love the hit Broadway show then you will love this book! I could pretty much relate to Evan, because this book really shows how sometimes it’s difficult to try and fit into society, or even meeting new people, and finding others that you click with, which is something most people can relate to. This book also shows how sometimes a lie can get out of hand and in the end, what really matters is to tell the truth to stop hurting others, which we humans can relate to because we lie, and at times we can get away with it, but it doesn’t feel right to keep it that way. And it not only has Evan’s point of view, but it also has Connor’s point of view which added another depth to the story because it showed Connor’s story before he had committed suicide and what lead to it, and I felt that without his point of view the story would have been confusing. It was hard to put down this book because it keeps you intrigued to keep reading, also overall, I thought it was a fast read which was nice. I highly recommend this book to everyone, its relatable and heart felt, it just shows the reality of what it is to be a teenager in our society.

I had no idea that this was a book before the musical! I've been curious about what the whole story was about but didn't just want to listen to the soundtrack, but now that I know it's a book too, it is going straight on my 'to read' list. It's cool that this book uses dual perspective too, I find they help flesh out the story better.

It does seem so interesting that it would be a quick read because you just couldn't put it down. I was definitely not expecting the plot twist of connor committing suicide and his parents thinking evans note was his.
