Barton Jahn Since the time of the writing of Charles Darwin’s book On the Origin of Species in 1859…a large part of the research in biology and paleontology has been focused on how complex living things could self-assemble through a number of gradual, accidental improvements…to reach the point of being able to survive and reproduce in a competitive environment…all according to the naturalistic viewpoint of a mindless, unguided, indifferent, random, trial-and-error process.

A question of equal importance that has gotten no attention as far as I can find in the evolution literature…is how does an apple tree know when it is time to stop growing and to start producing edible fruit…apples. What tells the apple tree what size to make the apples…and how many to make?

The same question applied to the complexity of the human body appears to shout-out for intelligent design. What tells the human heart when it has reached the optimum sweet-spot for size and function? What tells the liver, kidneys, and pancreas when they have achieved the correct architectural design and function…and then stop in their development?

When applied to the biblical narrative stories of faith…only God knows how far He can take us through the cross and down a journey of faith…crucifying us alongside Jesus on our own individual crosses…yet not crushing our spirits.

Only God knows when it is time to stop “growing” and to start producing fruit…like the apple, orange, and olive tree.

The time for the birth of Isaac finally arrives…Joseph is elevated to become governor of Egypt, Moses delivers the Israelites out of Egypt, Joshua conquers the land of Canaan, and David finally becomes king.

Is the fact that we see a similar pattern of a narrow bandwidth of definition…of top and bottom horizontal lines that define every living creature so as to allow for taxonomic classification…along with a narrow bandwidth of definition that sets the limits for the biblical narrative stories of faith…in how far they go and when they stop in terms of the cross of Christ…is this an argument for the divine origin of the Bible and of Christianity?
