With the first month of the year already behind us I thought it would be good to get ready for a group read. I thought we could do it over two months so there was plenty of time to participate.

I thought as we focussed a lot on fiction last year it might be cool to switch it up and shine a light on some other kiwi authors - this time, authors of cookbooks!

I thought it would be cool to find out some good cookbooks and over two months try out some recipes from the winning book and swap stories :)

Comment below with a cookbook you'd like to nominate. A few rules below:

- Should be written by a Kiwi author
- Should be relatively easy to get hold of (e.g. available in both print and e-version)

Nominations will close Saturday 16 February 2019. I'll let put up a poll - most votes win (one vote per person).

So let the nominations start rolling in... :)

From the op - "Comment below with a cookbook you'd like to nominate.

Could I nominate The Essential Digby Law - Over 700 Great New Zealand Recipes?

Karen (karnc) | 11 comments I'd like to nominate Sweet Enough, by the Isherwood Sisters. Recipes for cakes and biscuits using less sugar, but still tasting great. I've used several of these recipes, including the one for ginger crunch.
I bought my copy direct from their web-site www.sweetenough.co.nz

Kiwiflora Could I nominate Lauraine Jacobs' new book - Always Delicious. A compilation of her favourites from her last 8 years or so as Listener food editor. Also love Digby Law - I bought his Entree Cookbook at a book sale.

This one looks like a fiction novel? If so, keep it in mind for our next fiction group read. This time round we're doing cookbooks :)

This group read is for cookbooks - so keep this in mind for the next fiction group read. Thought I'd mix it up this time :)

Kiwiflora Lauraine will be thrilled with that! Not sure if she belongs to GoodReads or not, but she loves a good bit of promotion. Cheers

This one also isn't on GR. I'd be happy to add, but the author name is the Isherwood Sisters. Pretty sure we can't add like that. Karen do you know if they are Sarah Isherwood & Nicky Isherwood? (as opposed to having a married name) Otherwise I may have to ask in the Librarians Group what the policy is.

She's not a GR author, but unless she enjoys social media I'm not sure how much benefit there is to joining now. The Giveaways are really expensive for authors now & only for Canadian & American residents. (sorry for going off track, Erica.)

The Isherwood Sisters Ltd is the name of the publisher, so wouldn't appear anywhere but that field. The full details of the book, including authors, photographer, ISBN etc. are here
https://www.worldcat.org/title/sweet-...

Pub. date is 25 February 2016.

If you want me to put it on ...

Marion Metz | 1 comments I would like to nominate "Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy" by Jo Seagar (recipes) and John Stringer (cartoons). It's a cook book for children/teens, and has rather delicious recipes in it. Published at Random House NZ in 2001

I support anything by Jo Seagar. She hosted a few people from my work at her place for dinner and she shared a few recipes. Although her food is generally not simple enough for my kind of cooking, doesn’t mean I won’t give it a go one day.
