Starr pledges to "never be quiet" (Chapter 26, p. 444). After reading this book, how can you use your voice to promote and advance social justice? Reflect on how you and your community discuss and address inequality.

Lavender (jedilibrarian) So my post on last week's discussion kind of answers this, too. Sometimes the best way to stand up is to not be silent. As a white woman, I feel like it shouldn't just fall to people within marginalized communities to stand up for themselves. They shouldn't have to in the first place because we're all humans and need to just treat each other with basic decency. The more people that stand up and say something in defense of marginalized people the less often those situations will become - hopefully.

Mon | 1 comments I think your voice doesn't need to come from your vocal cords or even a written message. There are a plethora of artists speaking out through paint and image alone, like some of the new Marvel comics that have come out. Sometimes it's just day to day stuff of treating others with respect and helping when someone needs help (opening a door, carrying groceries, not running them over when j-walking, etc.).
