Some may question how GotM is guaranteed to bring me joy, with the grimishness of the story.Well, this was my third reading, so I knew how much I enjoy reading it going in - the guarantee.
The joy comes from reading a book that is so fascinating and full of great twists and turns. It's also fun making the connections to other books in the series.

Hey, I feel ya. I remember my first read of it. It was overwhelming and fantastic and confusing and....an experience.

This is just insane to me. I don't have the time or the patience. The first HALF of the the first book took me a month to get through. No way would I be willing to spend that much time on a book, still feel confused as hell at the end of it, and then do that twice more.
But I also didn't enjoy it at all... so that's the difference. If you're confused but loving it anyway, more power to you. I just can't fathom it. LOL
I would have used it for the category that has a protagonist sharing your occupation. But I haven't been called back yet where I applied for a job as a Bridgeburner captain & pawn of the God of Chance.
