Chatter here about the book you're reading for this prompt! Some suggestions would be from a library, from a friend or relative, from Kindle Unlimited or Scribd. How are you interpreting this prompt?

Paperback Junky (ihatemattwall) | 21 comments Can you steal a book for this prompt? 😁

I love that! My answer is yes, but not from me!

Cheryl Clough (nonni2) | 14 comments I’m going to borrow (or maybe, Paperback Junky, we can go on a caper) from library Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. I can’t believe it but I’ve never read it.

message 11: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 7 comments So I chose to read The Death of Mrs.Westaway for the prompt borrowed and I rather regret picking the book up.

It was slow and repetitive and the twist was not much of a twist (at least for me)

The book is said to be a mystery thriller, and there was nothing thrilling about the book. Was not until a little past halfway that I was starting to feel intrigued. I felt no real connection with the characters, which is sad because the book is based on the secrets these characters have been keeping.

This was my first book read for March mystery madness and it was disappointing hoping my next pick will be better.

Catherine Pinkett | 45 comments Cheryl The Blue Train is a better Agatha than Murder on the Orient Express for me. It is interesting and moved locations. Orient Express is all about Poirot interviewing people in the Train.
What does anyone else think?

message 13: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Clough (nonni2) | 14 comments I guess I think of it as a “classic” that one who considers herself well-read should read. Plus, my local library is very, very small. Not sure it’s up to The Blue Train! This choice is for borrowed prompt. All that being said, thank you so much for the suggestion. I’m going to see if I can find The Blue Train. Maybe I’ll switch it out for the Blue prompt.

writer... (goodreadscomwriter) | 51 comments A source I like to borrow from is Kindle Unlimited.. great mysteries and a good way to try new authors.
[ I took the .99 for 3 month offer so it didn't break the bank!]

For those audiobook fans, youtube is a great source to find new listens. 😉
And-
Hoopla, Recorded Books, and Overdrive options extend public library offerings.

Any other fav offers to explore?

I know several people enjoy Scribd as well for ebooks and audiobooks, but it is a paid service ^-^

Berna | 9 comments As my first March Mystery Madness book, I finished The Ivanov Diamond
I read it by using a Turkish application called Bookmate which is kinda like unlimited so I am using this for "borrow" prompt.

I gave the book 3,5 stars than I rounded up to 4 in this site.

This is the second book in an urban fantasy/detective/mystery novella series. I enjoyed the first book better than this one but I still read it quite quickly. In this series, I like the fact that characters (although there are a few significant characters) are fleshed out even this is an action packed novella series.
I will definitely continue with the series.

Hi Jayne Catherine! I was going to start searching for The Blue Train, but my hubby went to library for himself and got Murder On the Orient Express for me. I put everything else aside and just finished reading it. I was amazed that Christie could keep me interested so completely when, you are correct, it was just chapter after chapter of conversations! That was my BORROWED book. Now, my NEW is a Tana French. I’ve never read anything by her before. Couldn’t find the first book in the series from the library, but I got Broken Harbor. I think that’s the title. Is it imperative that I read them in order of publication? Anyone comments about author? If I get time during month, I’m going to look up TheBlue Train.

Hi Cheryl, I'm not Catherine, but I saw your question. I've only read the first Tana French book and I'm pretty sure that you don't need to read them in order. I took a look at the second book and it appears to be about totally different detectives. I've heard Anne Bogel talk about them on her podcast "What Should I Read Next." I'm almost positive that I've heard her say that you don't need to read them in order. In fact I think she recommended Broken Harbor to someone who hadn't read any of them. So you should be fine.

Cheryl Clough (nonni2) | 14 comments Hi Elizabeth! Thanks for the info. I had some time so I decided to try the Tana French. I’m totally sucked in! Really enjoying it. And I don’t feel I’ve missed anything by not starting w: book 1. I’m already almost 100 pages in and can’t put it down. I’ll have to read more if her. Hope your reading is going well.

Susan | 11 comments Finished the Borrowed prompt
The Girl In Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware
It was a page turner for me. Its about a woman journalist who goes on this ship to write about her travel experiences.
When during the night, a murder takes place next door in cabin 10 and no one believes what the journalist saw, cause no one is missing from the ship and cabin 10 is unoccupied.

I have this one, but have not read it yet. I read The Death of Mrs. Westaway as my first book by this author and didn't have the best impression. Have you read other books by Ruth Ware? Which do you think is best?

message 22: by Susan (new)

Susan | 11 comments She is also a new author to me. I definitely would try other books
from her. I wanted to try the one called In a dark, dark woods.

Raúl López (latinlector) | 6 comments I finished “Behind Closed Doors” by B.A. Paris a few days ago and absolutely loved it!! It completed my challenge for “borrowed” because I had an audiobook copy from the library. It also met the bonus challenge because there was a wedding in it!!!

I completely forgot about that lol! I'm glad you enjoyed it ^-^

Marina (marina12474) Since I have refound my love of going to the library, this prompt was very easy for me. I "Borrowed" Lemon Meringue Pie Murder (Hannah Swensen, #4) by Joanne Fluke by Joanne Fluke for this one. The series is an ongoing one for me and this was the easiest prompt to complete.

I hadn't read it before, sol that was my selection for OLD. I finished it a week ago.

A web site where you can download and listen to audio books of books that are in the public domain for free is LibriVox (https://librivox.org/).

They also have app for Apple and Android devices.

Kristin | 31 comments I borrowed A Murder for the Books by Victoria Gilbert from a library. I am always looking for a new cozy mystery series so I thought I would try this one. This book was good, but not as fast paced or exciting as other cozies I have read. Maybe I will give the second in the series a try at another time.

message 31: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 32 comments I borrow a lot of books from Overdrive so I just pickedBlueberry Muffin Murder because I always try to pick up the next book in this series in March.

At any given time during the month of March, I had over 30 tangible items checked out from the library. (Thankfully my library doesn't have a limit) So it was no trouble completing this prompt. I'm going to count The Stranger by Harlan Coben because it is one of the books that I double borrowed. Meaning that I borrowed both a physical copy and an audio copy from the library.

Laura from mom2triplets04 hosted a Harlan Coben read-along so I read this with her.

Donna | 37 comments For the BORROWED category: except for The Mystery in Old Quebec which I purchased from Amazon as one of the books I read as a Weekly Reader subscription as a child and which I would like to have on my permanent shelf, are borrowed from the library.
