Catherine Chapman (catherineechapman) | 145 comments I have several covers on my books' Goodreads' pages that are out of date. I haven't used the site for a while and noticed when I logged in recently that there is now an 'Add an alternate cover edition' option on a book's page. I'm hoping this enables you to duplicate the info. for a book (blurb and reviews, etc.) but replace the cover image with a new one. However, I'm nervous of making the change in case information is lost!

Can anybody advise whether my understanding of this option is correct? Has anybody updated their cover images using it? I recall, in the past I tried to join the Librarians group because I thought this would be a way of updating covers but it didn't seem to give me any additional permissions...

Guidance / enlightenment would be appreciated!

Catherine Chapman (catherineechapman) | 145 comments This amuses me: I finally sussed how to update covers on Goodreads and, as a result, find I am #39 Top Librarian in the UK this month! Makes me wonder how much actual librarianship is going on...

Leslie Garland | 57 comments I changed all of mine several months ago now. For a while all went well, but just recently they have been defaulting back to the old design. Unfortunately, Goodreads does not allow one to remove them completely and for some (daft) reason considers them as an edition. As an author, I just want to get rid of them! And this business of their defaulting back to the old design is proof, if it were needed, of why.

Catherine Chapman (catherineechapman) | 145 comments I've now updated my covers, Leslie and, for the most part, it's worked when I set the current cover as the primary edition of the book. However, I have found that if I want to show the cover as an icon in a post, it sometimes reverts back to an old edition's cover - no idea why!

Leslie Garland | 57 comments Hi Catherine,

Your experience seems to be much the same as mine. I contacted Goodreads, explained the problem and now, says I with fingers crossed, things appear to have been sorted. I have no idea what they did at their end, but at least now when I post, the current cover design shows up.

I suggest you contact them and explain, and ask for the problem to be corrected. May be they will sort this glitch out one day.

Good luck.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1753 comments I'm having the same problem and have contacted them several times saying the new cover is not appearing except in the little line of attempts to change!

As the last post dates back to 2020, it seems nothing has changed.
