I admire true poets such as yourself. I believe that poetry is one the most expressive and beautiful of all literary expressions.

I wrote a poem in 1967, when I was only 19-years-old. Although, it does not meet the standard set by poems such as yours, I thought you might enjoy it. Spoiler Alert! I was experiencing a difficult and challenging time and was throwing myself a pity party as teenagers tend to do when they think that no one else in the world has ever had a similar experience.

Make It Through Today
We fight in a land that's filled with sorrow.
We bag our dead, then we march away.
We do not worry about tomorrow;
We just hope to make it through today.

Back at the base camp, I fool with the guys,
But I never learn their names too well.
Because today, though we fight together,
By tomorrow, some of us will be in Hell.

I pick up a pen, then I write a letter.
I write: "Dear Mom, I'm doing just fine.
So, please don't worry. Thing couldn't be better".
Then I grab my weapon to defend the line.

Wow, Jim, that is incredible! I don't understand why you would minimize your poem and compare it to me in the way you did. 'A true poet?' '... doesn't meet the standard?' This is untrue, Jim. Sure I love writing poetry, and alway have, but I am in no way above what you are able to express.

We met in another group, and I requested your friendship because I appreciate the way you are able to put words together and offer so much valuable information. The depth that you put into your posts, is much like the depth of poetry. You have so much wisdom, and I am honoured that you have said such things about me, because I do not hold myself in this regard ... I just love writing and sharing, just like you do.
