Thank you for your question Dustin.
I started writing very simple rhyming verses from about 8 years. I recall one that I wrote in my early teens as an expression of my emotions - first love. It went something like this:
Here comes that special feeling
Wanting to be with you all the time
Needing you near me
You're always on my mind
This is love I feel
It's love - I know it's love
There's no mistake I know
It's love - I feel
There's no mistaking baby
No ifs or buts or maybe's
It's love I feel...... etc.
When I was about 16 I began to formulate melodies to my simple poems - I still write songs today.
It was a natural progression towards novel writing, a desire that developed and gathered momentum with time.
I wanted to write a novel but I lacked confidence. I started many handwritten manuscripts only to abandon them after a short time.
There was little time to write when I had a young family to attend to, but as my family grew and I had more time on my hands, the longing to write a novel grew.
Another ambition of mine was to return to studying. I did that, and it was a comment from one of my tutors that convinced me that I could write - it provided me with the confidence booster that I needed.
I had written an essay on the rather drab subject of Trusts and my tutor made such a fuss about my writing style (as opposed to the content of the essay), that caused me to think. And that was the turning point for me. Following those compliments which were very sincere I began to write in earnest. I was in my early thirties by then.
I hope this answers your question.

Wow. Yes, you sure did! You went above and beyond anything I'd expected. Thank you for taking the time to share some about yourself. I feel like I have a better sense of who you are, personally.Who are/were some of your biggest influences?
God bless you and yours.:)

To be honest my reading taste is so eclectic - I can't really pinpoint a particular source of influence definitively. I read quite a bit of Charles Dickens, Charles Dickens and the other classics while I was in school and when I was a young adult, Jackie Collins was one of my favourite Authors :-].
Nowadays I tend to read a lot of indie Authors - there is a sea of talent out there. If I had to name a particular Author that I love to read, I would say J California Cooper - I absolute love her down to earth style and the humour in her writing keeps a smile upon my face as I read her novels. However, I don't really feel that I am majorly influenced by her or any other Author. I just write what I feel in my spirit, I guess.
Thanks for asking - I hope my answer is satisfactory.

My tastes are eclectic, too, so we're alike in that regard.I like Charles Dickens a lot. Have you read Bleak House ?
There really are a lot of very talented Indie writers. Lately, I've read a fair number of them myself, mostly science fiction, fantasy, and horror. I haven't read any J. California Cooper.
So sure did. Thank you again!
You're welcome!I read it a few years ago, like 2010 or '11, but I remember liking it a lot, but I'm not sure that I totally understood it. You know?
Yeah - I know what you mean - I think :-]. I'll let you know how I find it when I get around to reading it. I hope to get to it by, say, May. I have a lot else in the queue before then and I must fit in some writing too :-]
I look forward to your thoughts on it. Bleak House certainly isn't easy. Hopefully you can break into it asap. I know all about an overwhelming reading queue.
