The title suggested something terrible would occur, but the actual events are described in such a way as to leave the nature of the gathering and the resulting actions a bit unclear. This lent an ominous mood for me, like a storm cloud was building but had not yet broken. I think the many potential instances for misunderstanding in the scene contribute to that.
