Liz (liz_the_librarian) Since this month's challenge is all about art and music, what book have you read that you see as a piece of art?

Of course, writing is an art form, and it's arguable that all books are art. But everyone has a different view of the world, so please share with us what book you see as art.

For me, it's House of Leaves. It's very complex, and not everything can be pulled from the text on a first reading. It's like a layered painting; each viewing reveals something new. Not only that, but the text serves to create actual images on the pages of the book.
House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski

Ingrid Hurst (bookrdr) | 285 comments Pillars of the Earth. I loved the descriptions of the building of the cathedrals. The architecture was like an art form and men devoted their lives to the the process.

Ann (ann-fracturedfiction) | 516 comments I'm currently reading The Girl with the Pearl Earring, which I am thoroughly enjoying. The story is told from the viewpoint of the model, rather than the artist. Even though she starts working in his house as the maid, she starts to help him with his art: grinding his colors and cleaning his studio. Through her exposure to his work in progress, she begins to understand his treatments of light and color in his work.

I really enjoyed that book a lot also.
