Caitlin Dozier This week I read “Boy Meets Boy” by David Levithan. This short little book follows a boy named Paul, who is gay. From what I saw in the first couple chapters is that Paul lives in a community that has a lot of diversity in sexuality. This was cool to see in a young adult book because you usually see a lot of bullying when you have a diverse community like that. This book has a lot of characters with very basic and similar names so it was kind of hard for me to follow. However Paul has two best friends Tony and Joni who really stand by him when things get tough later in the book. Paul falls in love with the new guy, Noah. But Paul has a jealous ex, Kyle. See how it can get hard to follow? This book definitely was not a fit for me but I know a student in middle or high school would love a book like this. Later in the book Paul asks Noah to the Dowager’s Dance with big extravagant gifts. I remember that was my biggest dream in high school was to get asked to homecoming in some huge fancy way. Noah of course says yes and the book has a happy ending. I knew it was going to be a mushy gushy book from the beginning and honestly it was refreshing to have a good ending after reading all the bad things that are happening to young students when they come out and dealing with typical high school bullies.
