Priya I have mixed feelings about this book. It did not catch my interest right away like books I usually enjoy. After reading the first page of any book I can tell whether or not I am going to be reading it all night long. For me I think that I did not like the dialogue or the way the story was told. Everything was rushed (the book was only 185 pages long) and felt very unreal. For example, in the book there was a high school rally and all of these club groups introduced themselves. When it was the cheerleaders turn, they arrived riding on motorcycles. This felt very unrealistic and kind of like a fantasy when on the contrary this story was told in a regular high school setting. It reminded me of the reading app Wattpad where there would be exaggerated events taking place in high school. Even though most of the story felt like a fantasy I believe people from the LGBTQ community would enjoy this book for that very reason. This book would allow the mind to get lost in a book where a transgender student was not just the quarterback but the prom queen as well. And where there are alliances made of peers who help others come out to their parents and have that support. It would be nice for a town to normalize being gay or lesbian and no one bats their eye at seeing couples out together. However, it could also be a dread. Because once that book comes to an end people would come back to their real world where stuff like that doesn’t happen just yet. Overall, I personally did not enjoy reading this book because of the style of the writing and because it reminded me of those Wattpad stories I wasn’t a fun of. The one thing I did like was the different view on the LGBTQ community and how positive it was.
