Following our poll for this month's themed reads, this is the nomination topic for the first of the chosen themes (Apocalyptic/Post-Apocalyptic science fiction).

As per usual, all suggestions made in this topic will be listed in a poll in a few days so that we can vote on the two books for the monthly group read.

If a book has featured in a previous group read in the last 12 months, please do not suggest it for this next group read. You may, however, feel free to repeat any earlier unsuccessful suggestions you (or anybody else) made in previous nomination topics.

Richard Derus (expendablemudge) | 22 comments Please consider the post-apocalyptic deeply interesting The Zona by Nathan Yocum. It's a book with indelible images in it. I want to read it again, so I'm nominating it in this, the author's birthday month.

That looks interesting, Richard! And it's a happy coincidence that it's the authopr's birthday month too!

Ian Miller | 45 comments If you want to try something different, and by a member of your group, "Troubles" (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008CT962O and others, e.g, Smashwords etc). The apocalypse was a total collapse of the economy, of governance, where those not privileged lived on the minimum needed to keep them at bay, and received the partly toxic food nobody else would eat. But the economy is recovering, and there is a very brutal race to get control of the future wealth. There is also a smattering of science.

Sounds apocalyptic to me! Here's the goodreads link to the kindle version: Troubles.

I'll second this! Been wanting to read it for years.
