I did not know much about Deaf/deaf culture other than a few basic things. I did not know the difference between Deaf and deaf until just now looking it up. As in capitalized Deaf is talking about the Deaf culture itself and lower case deaf references only hearing loss.
I did not or could not relate much to Deafness in the book though I felt more of myself relating to Steffi. Her severe anxiety which aided in causing her to not speak. When I made the transition from elementary to middle and high school I closed down and very rarely spoke at all, trusting no one.
There is a German TV series called "Sehen statt hören" "Seeing instead of hearing" and it portrays Deaf culture in all its forms. It portrays sports people, parties, students in dormitories...
A portrayal of the diversity and also the many different situations Deaf people are in. I really like it a lot. I used to watch it a lot when I was younger.

Do you know the difference between Deaf and deaf?
Is there anything you can relate to in the book about Deafness?
