Kelly | 1009 comments In Tom Rachman’s debut novel he takes his experience in a newspaper and turns that into the setting of The Imperfectionist. The story covers decades and starts with an American beginning a newspaper in Rome, Italy. It follows those associated with the paper. Each chapter is dedicated to showing one character's story. These same people are also included in different chapters as minor characters. This method connects the book.

The reader learns about how a character feels in their own chapter. Their struggles and insecurities are shown in their personal lives that everyone else may not see. The author includes descendants of the man who started the paper and how they view the business. The characters are all flawed and their futures may not be clear, but together their stories blend into a book where the reader wants to see what happens to the paper.

Susie Thanks for your review Kelly. I recently read The Italian Teacher and really enjoyed it so I’ll give this a go at some stage.

Good review. This sounds like a good story. I like how it covers decades.
