Good crime writers are skillful at hiding clues in plain sight. How well does the author hide the clues in this work?

I think the author is good a hiding clues in the small amount of the novel I have read. The writing is kind of samey, almost monotonous and sleep inducing e.g This is the water, This is Dinah etc and then all of a sudden she throws in a unexpected comment (curve ball), which either makes you do a double take or you could easily gloss over the information and not really realise what you have read and this makes it very interesting to me.
