If your inner wolf and your body react rather enthusiastically to a psychotic Alpha male who’s own wolf has a tendency to turn feral, it can’t be a good thing, can it? Entering into a bargain with him wouldn’t be good either. Unfortunately, Taryn Warner, a latent wolf shifter, doesn’t have many options open to her right now. Okay, she has no options. Basically it comes down to whether she’ll do what it takes to escape the arranged mating with the sick SOB that her father set up. As the answer in this case is yes, it looks as though she’ll have to agree to Trey Coleman’s deal… she’ll have to mate with him instead.

Having always disliked shifter politics, Trey Coleman hadn’t bothered trying to form alliances with other packs. Now that his uncle – a wolf with many alliances – means to take Trey’s territory and his pack, he has no option but to form some alliances of his own very quickly or he’ll be easily outnumbered in the upcoming battle. He figures that the easiest way to do that would be to mate with a female whose Alpha is powerful and influential. There’s only one problem with that – he would then be stuck with her, and the last thing Trey wants is a mate. When he hears of Taryn’s situation, he offers her a deal – if she falsely claims he’s her true mate and allows him to claim her, he’ll save her from her arranged mating and then let her leave after the battle with his uncle is over.

Sounds like a pretty straightforward deal...but soon Taryn and Trey realize they got more than they bargained for. Their mating instincts to protect and possess are weighing on them, they crave each other’s touch and company, and their inner wolves don’t like it whenever they’re apart. Add in that they’ll have to deal with this for an entire three months until the day of the battle finally arrives, and they’ve got themselves a recipe for disaster – or maybe for something quite the opposite.

While at the moment they are clueless, I get the feeling that Taryn and Trey are going to find out that they are really true mates. It should be interesting to see how that unfolds. (hide spoiler)]

I bet no one even questioned her the first time around with the car. 2) this bond that Taryn is able to make with birds in general - could it be an unusual power she has, like maybe the ability to shift into a bird? This had a lot more smut in it than I anticipated for a shifter fantasy (although, where was the menage scene that the synopsis mentioned - I don't remember one??). Not that I am necessarily complaining. I liked that Taryn's character wasn't a submissive type. She really battled it out for dominance and I even liked her bitchy sarcasm. I had it all wrong in suspecting Grandma as the informant. I wonder if we will get more of their banter in the next book even though it is about different characters. (hide spoiler)]

Ch 15 (77%) - (view spoiler)[ WTF is Laurie's deal? I don't get it. She is mated to his brother but she wants Dante too? And NOW is when she resurfaces? And poor Lief - not only does he have a horrible name for wolf but there is something strange going on with his relationship with his mother. I really thought that either Jamie would have to uncover repressed memories about the night that her parents died OR Dante would figure out how to get her wolf to trust him (like the story was headed with the abused dog stuff). I'm so excited to get to Nick and Shaya's story!! As much as I like Dante, I really wanted their story to be #2.

Ch 15 (72%) - (view spoiler)[ I am just as confused as they are about who could be doing this. My money is on Wade's mom. I don't like that she hated Riley's mom for an unknown reason, and I have a hard time believing that Riley's mom was killed by a bald eagle or whatever. There are just too many weird things in Riley's past that don't add up and Wade's mom is linked to them. Now, she might have an accomplice in Cynthia too. I wouldn't rule out her power hungriness as a motive for killing off everyone in her age group to leave her as the heir to the flock. (hide spoiler)]

I would have lost money on that - I thought it would come out that she had been the one to manipulate Wade into doing that. We knew Tao and Riley would end up as mates, but does that mean that any babies they have could be flying wolves? Just wondering.

I liked this book a little better than a couple of the last ones. I think integrating a different type of shifter group was a good choice, and I love how the unapproachable Tao ended up with a snake and cheetah kid at the end. So sweet. (hide spoiler)]
