the (downloaded) reading lists. I like mainly fantasy (Tolkien, for instance), comedy in the fiction, paranormal fiction and romance,
watching & reading almost anything about the paranormal, love
ghost stories - both factual and otherwise. Like watching TV &

remake of the "The Wizard of Oz" with a twist. I also enjoy
horror films, but only to the extent of vampire flicks. I avoid slasher films like the plague - esp. after seeing the first 15 min. of "Nightmare on Elm Street". (Hope that isn't _too_ long.)

Reading
Rather than reading YA fiction like Divergent, fantasy books, or any sort of fiction, I read nonfiction history books (I know, boring.) You can say I'm a bit obsessed over history, especially the past 20th century. Hobbies aside, I'm also trying to boost my GPA in school by stuffing AP classes into my schedule. Outside of schoolwork, I don't really have time to read fiction.
I used to love fiction, including children's books such as Geronimo Stilton, Warriors by Erin Hunter, and Secret of Droon when I was in middle school and elementary school. However, once I entered 8th grade, my passion for history started flaring, and all I did was research the World Wars, colonization, politics, and historical figures. I remember reading Stopped at Stalingrad: The Luftwaffe and Hitler's Defeat in the East, 1942-1943 all summer, then moving on to The Battle of Kursk (Extremely detailed book, by the way.) When I got into high school, I had no time for any reading at all, with schoolwork, virtual school courses, studying Chinese, and learning German.
I plan on adding more classes to my schedule, as well as starting extracurricular activities, which would shorten my reading time even more. The only books I have are AP review books and textbooks, and the occasional copy of Infantry Attacks. When I was in elementary school, I remember my parents complaining that I spent too much time reading fiction. I would ask them about their favorite books, and how much they read. They would always reply that they didn't have time to read. Now, I understand how so much time is taken up by school, work, and other hobbies, while reading is pushed to last.
I want to spend more time in books, although that's probably a hollow dream, a New Year's resolution doomed from the start. Right now I'm typing from a laptop halfway across the world in a Hong Kong library, pretending to do my computer science course. I hope you all, especially the younger kids here, to treasure the time you have outside of school. Childhood is the one period in life where a person is free to do whatever they want without much restriction. Enjoy this freedom while you have it.
If you're going to ask, my profile picture is Reichtangle. Google it.
Name: ZulaikhaAge: 17
I like to read about pretty much anything and everything- science, nature, astronomy, history, race, class, gender, politics, psychology, philosophy, diaspora, Africa, and a lot more but I especially enjoy poetry, and what I would classify as "classic" books.
Currently I am re-reading "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Housaini.
Funfact about myself: I enjoy spending time alone in nature :)
