I'm in! APRIL
1. Dirty Thirty (30th birthday): Read a book with a heroine thirty or over. That Kind of Guy, by Talia Hibbert; ★★★★ finished 5/6. Lovely story about a guy who figures out he's demisexual and an older (40!) divorced female author.
2. Tax Day: Read a book where money plays a role (billionaire, class differences, etc). I Owe You One, by Sophie Kinsella; ★★★★ finished 4/3. Heroine is working class and proud of it; much of conflict in story revolves around family disputes over $ and people wanting to be 'posh' and 'swanking around' (this is set in UK).
3. Spring Break: Read a book set during a vacation or at a place where you'd consider vacationing. How to Find Love in a Bookshop, by Veronica Henry; ★★★ 1/2 finished 4/19. Multiple characters (almost too many for me) and how their love lives revolve around a bookstore in a village in the Cotswolds of England. I want to go there!
4. Easter Sunday: Read a book with animals in it or featuring a person of faith. A Deadly Divide, by Ausma Zehanat Khan; ★★★★ finished 4/13. Detective Inspector Esa Khattak is a devout Muslim (if you haven't read any of the Khattak & Getty series it is astoundingly good, though often disturbing and/or heart-rending).
5. April Fool's: Read a book you consider to be funny. Three Mages and a Margarita, by Annette Marie; ★★★★ finished 4/22. Paranormal mystery fun, free on KU.
MAY
1. Nurse's Week: Read a book with a character in a medical field. Crossing Lines, by Aarti V. Raman; ★★★★★ finished 4/10. Romance between a resident dr. and a reformed hacker (both Indian-American). Amazing details on medicine and culture.
2. Free Comic Book Day: Read a comic or graphic novel. Fire!!: The Zora Neale Hurston Story, by Peter Bagge. ★★★★ finished 5/11. Fascinating story about an enigmatic and intriguing woman. I don't love Bagge's art, but his story-telling and research are superlative (he also did an amazing biography of Margaret Sanger).
3. May the 4th: Read a science fiction novel or a book that has something to do with space. Polaris Rising, by Jessie Mihalik; ★★★ 1/2 finished 4/25. Although it took place in space this romance wasn't really very SF-y.
4. Goth Day: Read a book with a dark or black cover. Blackout: A Thriller, by Ragnar Jonasson; ★★★ 1/2 finished 4/16. Icelandic mystery with some truly unlikable characters and weird tangents. Setting is best part of story for me.
5. Taurus/Bull: Read a western or a book set on a farm. After We Fall, by Melanie Harlow; ★★★ 1/2 finished 4/22. City girl (from Detroit burbs) goes up to Michigan's 'thumb' to do p.r. for an organic farm. Free on KU.
JUNE
1. Pride: Read an LGBT romance. Bear, Otter, and the Kid, by T.J. Klune; ★★★★★ finished 4/24. Emotionally exhausting but beautiful story of a two guys who form a family. Also got me totally hooked on sequels.
2. Longest Day: Read a book with 350 or more pages. The Golden Tresses of the Dead, by Alan Bradley; ★★★ 1/2 finished 4/28. 352 pages and 10th in the Flavia de Luce mystery series.
3. Great Outdoors Month: Read a book with a character who loves the outdoors. Trail Magic, by Cara Malone; ★★★★ finished 5/13. Lesbian romance about hiking the Appalachian Trail and discovering some self-truths. Free on KU!
4. Candy Month: Read a book that you consider to be "sweet." The Girl He Used to Know, by Tracey Garvis Graves; ★★★★ finished 4/15. Unusual romance that alternates between college in 1991 and re-connection ten years later. Both characters are just nice people with some challenges, and the story is sweet but not cutesy at all.
5. Reader's Choice: Read whatever you like! How to Be a Normal Person, by T.J. Klune; ★★★★ 1/2 finished 4/23. Unique characters and heartwarming and funny. Spectrums of normalcy and sexuality explored.
Quick question! On the, "Read a book with animals in it or featuring a person of faith", can the person of faith be a secondary character? Say the heroine is a vicars daughter/pastors daughter, or say the heroine has a brother who is a priest, and he's part of the story? Or does the person of faith need to be a main character?

It can be a secondary character.
It can be a secondary character.
Yay, I'm back! I fell off the wagon of doing these challenges a while back, but was listening to episode #339 where Amanda talked about this group and that inspired me to come back over. Also like everyone, I have dozens of books waiting on my Kindle, and these challenges can be a great way to bang through some of those. BUT it's already a week into April, what did I read so far and can I fit that into any of these categories? I read Sleepover by Serena Bell - it was pretty sweet, I guess? Or maybe the heroine was 30, I will have to go back and check. ;)I'm happy to be back!

I'm loving that almost everyone's pick for "Heroine over 30" is the new Courtney Milan. Way to overachieve with a heroine more than twice that, ladies! :D
Tuuli wrote: "I'm loving that almost everyone's pick for "Heroine over 30" is the new Courtney Milan. Way to overachieve with a heroine more than twice that, ladies! :D"Hahaha! I guess we all know and love her work. And Mrs. Martin was such a memorable character - I recall her more than the H/h or that book!
I don't remember! Or maybe vaguely - was she in the one with Crash and Daisy? Maybe I should re-read that one before I get to this new one...
Oh my God I never read that! I don't know how I can have missed it! Two new Courtney Milans to burn through together, YESSS!!! Thanks Critterbee!
Finished and my list is here. My favorites were a couple of new to me authors - T.J. Klune and Aarti V. Raman!Although Talia Hibbert's latest was pretty amazing.

I'm in the same boat!
Finished!I really enjoyed the books I read for this quarter's challenge. Standout favorites were The Bride Test, The Vanishing Season, and The Austen Playbook.
The color yellow really seemed to pop up for me this challenge too--over half of my books had some sort of yellow element (background, text color, accent...) Most of those books were published in 2018-2019. I wonder if it's becoming the new "trendy" color in publishing!
Finished today! I happily had lots of five star reads this time, but my favorites were Mrs. Martin’s Incomparable Adventure, The Raven Tower, Stand on the Sky, and On the Come Up. Angie Thomas is an amazing, amazing author.I'm also now totally hooked on Elisa Braden and her Rescued from Ruin series. I only read one for the challenge, but glommed the rest of the series. I feel like I've been running short lately on smart, well-written historical romance.
Finished! My favourites were Witchmark and Not Your Sidekick, which is funny because I don't consider SciFi-Fantasy to be in my genre wheelhouse at all. And Not Your Sidekick is post-apocalyptic-superhero-YA-f/f, which is so far out of my normal comfort zone, but I really loved it! Books are so great.
Finished! I think Midnight in Chernobyl might have been my favorite, but I'm weird like that!APRIL

Duration: April 1 - June 30
Instructions:
There are five tasks per month. I researched a lot of weird holidays for this one.
Tasks can be completed in any order. For example, you can read a book in April that satisfies a June task. The months are only there to serve as task inspiration.
Only one book can be used per task. If a book fulfills two tasks, you'll have to choose!
Books can only be used if they were started and finished during the challenge's time frame.
Please post in this thread if you have any questions!
