which is the most waterproof?
word documents have to be converted to Kindle format. Supported formatsKindle Format 8 (AZW3), Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively
HTML DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, PMP through conversion
Audible audio format (AAX).
natively means no conversion to Amazon format is necessary.
and transferring a .doc or .docx to a paperwhite via usb will not covert them and they will not open or even be visible. And it will not be possible to edit them - for that you would need a Fire. I use either a Send to Kindle app or email docs to my Kindles.
Send to Kindle email method: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/cust...
Send to Kindle app: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...

The Kindle Oasis is also waterproof (but also substantially more costly).

thanks for that :-)
then either the program automatically does that (the Send to Kindle app does) or you have an older Kindle that can do that. Or perhaps you have a Fire - Fires can handle .doc files
Kath wrote: "I just email word docs to my kindle. No converting."Emailing a Word doc to your kindle address automatically converts it to a kindle-friendly format. The Amazon website help is not clear on this - it says that you must include "convert" in the subject-line, but for Word docs (and presumably the other non-kindle formats listed), it does convert anyway.
Note for the sake of clarity: the Send-to-Kindle app that CBRetriever mentions in post 9 is a separate app/browser add-on, but it does the same thing as sending (i.e. emailing) your document does. The app is nice in that you can send webpages without needing to download them - I often use it for short stories which are published on websites if I'd like to read them later on my kindle or keep a copy.

However before I do, a couple of things I need to know. I'm assuming that word documents can be read on it (I need this feature)
I'm also assuming that you can plug it into the computer and shift files back and forward like I could with an old kindle
Am I right?
