Alessandra (chibisuke) | 266 comments I decided to keep my personal reading challenge a bit "smaller" 'cause there aren't many months left 'til the end of 2014. Recently I joined a "challenge" on tumblr that is called love your shelf. Its main point is to read a book from your shelf before buying a new one. My personal challenge will be to finish as many of the books listed below as I can until December 31th. Let's see how this will work out :)

Side Note: I'm not going to count books I'm going to read as a buddy read or group read!

MY TBR STACK
The Dead by Charlie Higson
The Fear by Charlie Higson
The Sacrifice by Charlie Higson
The Autobiography of Jack the Ripper by James Carnac
The Atlantis Complex by Eoin Colfer
The Last Guardian by Eoin Colfer
Blackout. Morgen ist es zu spät by Mark Eisberg
Journal 64 by Jussi Adler-Olsen
Assassin's Creed: Revelations By Oliver Bowden
Assassin's Creed: Forsaken by Oliver Bowden
Inferno by Dan Brown
The House of Hades by Rick Riordan
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkien
Naoko by Keigo Higashino
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
The Screaming Staircase by Jonathan Stroud

Camille (camillesbookishadventures) Good luck with your challenge!

If "Black Out" is not listed, I can add it to the database for you (I'm a Goodreads librarian), just let me know.

Alessandra (chibisuke) | 266 comments I think it is listed, because I was able to add it some weeks back, but I couldn't find it again. I think it's because there are so many books that are called Black Out. But thanks for the offer :D

message 4: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra (chibisuke) | 266 comments Updated my list a bit. I also finally found Blackout :) unfortunately my challenge is growing 'cause I can't refrain from buying books, but I think I'm still doing rather good. I'm positive that I will finish a lot of those books before the end of the year :)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments I like how your challenge keeps growing or is it your addiction. :D I have the same problem, came home two days ago with another *box* of books from the used books store and four more from the library. Good grief! :)

message 6: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra (chibisuke) | 266 comments I think it's both. My book addiction is getting out of hand (once again). :D It's just so hard to refrain from buying books. I'm still waiting until the last ones on that list arrive and I already want to buy new ones. Good thing I never go to the library 'cause I always forget to bring the books back in time. :D"

sonya marie madden | 437 comments I just returned a book to the library in time for another book I wanted to become available. I'll get it tomorrow. Reading Red Mist right now

message 8: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments I have 24 out, need to bring two back and pick up one. I think I just winnowed down by one.

My addiction is horrible, if you saw the seven piles by my bed, you would say, this woman is nuts. Plus I have a pile growing in my front sitting room and none of these books fit in the bookshelves.

message 9: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Sonya, I love Patricia Cornwell too!!!

Melissa, that's the best addiction to have. It's not a problem until you need to buy a house just for your books...at least that's what I keep telling myself!

message 10: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments I'm getting close. :)

Alessandra, Amazon must love you!

message 11: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra (chibisuke) | 266 comments I never heard of Patricia Cornwell :O Sometimes I feel like I'm a complete outsider living in the highest mountains *laughs*

Melissa, your book stacks sound a bit like my mums. She has a huge chaos next to her bed 'cause there isn't enough space to put her books :D Good thing is I still have some empty drawers I can fill with books. I don't own a bookshelf 'til now 'cause there isn't any room for one in my appartment. So I have book drawers instead :D

"Unfortunately" I haven't ordered on Amazon for years. At the moment I either buy them in stores (what I always do first 'cause I don't want book stores to disappear!) and recently I started to order on Book Depository if I'm not able to find them in book stores. It has free shipping and the books are really cheap (compared to Switzerlands prices). Sometimes I just wait until I'm in London again and visit the hue Waterstone near Picadilly Circus. It's amazing and has nearly everything! My sister always gets annoyed when she has to go there with me. Recently she has set me a time frame of 10 minutes and then I have to be out of a book store or she just abandons me xD"

On another note: Just started another book from my TBR pile. I'm slowly working on that stack and it really makes me proud 'cause I own some of those books for over a year and I feel bad for not reading them :/ Maybe someday I'll buy a book, read that book and buy the next one... but it won't happen soon (who am I kidding?! It probably will never happen)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Good for you! Our used book stores and regular book stores need our support, I'm saying, "I agree with you!" By the way, I think I've been in a Waterstone when living in England and have walked around Picadilly Circus. And 10 minutes is not enough time to even walk through the doors of a book store! Is there a way to compromise with your sister? :D

Your mom sounds like my twin!!!

Well back to Gone Girl. Oh boy, what unlikable characters, I just want to smack some sense into these two people.

message 13: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Melissa, I wonder how you will feel about the characters at the end? (Grins to self)...I have very strong feelings about the ending! Can't wait to read your reaction.

message 14: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Alessandra, congrats on making progress on your TBR! It's so hard to keep bringing that pile down. Great job.

message 15: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Lol, I like the BBA...although I think I'm a long way off of recovery :)

message 16: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments LOL! I'm ready to fall off the wagon just thinking about it! My support group would take up drinking trying to follow me or keep me off of Amazon! :D

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Have ya'll tried crates? Like ones they have at walmart, they work good as bookshelves. :-)

Alessandra (chibisuke) | 266 comments Iasa wrote: "I humbly request your magic formula for reducing your TBR. It must have something to do with the philosopher's stone!"
I look at it whenever I put a book back in my drawer and I feel guilty every single time. I bought the one I'm currently reading about three or four years ago and I never really got through (I started once, but didn't like it that much, but I'm enjoying it now a bit more :)). So that's my magic formula. Always look at the stack and feel guilty *laughs* but the philosopher's stone is the true magic formula! Don't tell anyone thought! :D

It's hard to refrain from buying books. My mum, my sis and I are going to the shopping mall a bit later today and there is a bookstore... and there are so many books I want to buy! *silently cries* But I'm probabl just going to look at them :(

Sandy, I'm actually worried about my drawer falling out or breaking down. It already starts and it's half empty right now. I'm thinking about a proper shelf, but it would be a small one and I think I have to start following in Melissa and my mums footsteps and start stacking them next to my bed :D

crates? How to check that out! :D

message 19: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Yeah walmart sells them too and We are making me a second bookshelf out of them for books and stuff in my room since my mom took her white beaudoir cabinet out of my room so I can have more space.

Alessandra (chibisuke) | 266 comments Thought I could update this challenge after finishig The Atlantis Complex by Eoin Colfer last weekend. Unfortunately I already bought two new books... So not much change after all. But I plan on reading only books from my TBR pile next month. I hope at the end of October this list will be a lot shorter. November will be my "I finish all those series I started" month 'cause I realized that I have a lot of books on my TBR pile that are part of a series. (or have read books that were part of a series that I want to finish) So let's hope that the list in the first post will be much shorter on the 31th December :D
