3.5 (round up to 4)

Look, Jasmine Guillory is not breaking literary boundaries with her novels. But, she is entertaining me immensely. And, I like that her main characters represent some diversity. Added bonus: the two books I have read by her included very accomplished female leads with accomplished careers and close friendships. This is not always a given in contemporary romance and I like it.

Nik is at a boring Dodgers game with her boring kind-of boyfriend when her attention becomes focused on the jumbo-tron. He. Is. Proposing. After dating for only five months. And in public. She doesn't even think she likes him all that much, let alone loves him. Enter Carlos. Carlos and his sister are also at the baseball game, just a few rows behind Nik and see the epic disaster. Carlos thinks quick to intercept the oncoming TV cameras and finds that he and Nik really get along....(insert wink here).

There were many things I liked about Nik and Carlos's relationship. They were not super intense about it, they didn't have to see each other every single day and demand to know what the other was doing when they weren't together. They saw each other several times a week and still spent time with their careers, friends, families, and hobbies. They had the genre-defining "fight" at about 80% through the story which sets up the obstacle they must overcome before their HEA, but this one annoyed me less than the "fight" in The Wedding Date.

Overall, entertaining if not awe-inspiring, but solid enough to round up to 4 instead of down to 3 stars.

Wonderful review! I have seen some rave reviews on this one and have yet to pick it up. I have to admit I haven't picked it up because I feared it was a cheesy romance.:)
