Septembers book choice winner is Your Eyes Don't Lie! This sounds like it'll be a fun read and fun to discuss.

I also thought it'd be fun to do a little character casting this time around. So, as you're reading start thinking of what movie star you think would fit the role. Then we'll do a little voting/casting. Start submitting names and we'll do a little vote and make the final announcement when we do the book chat on Sept 20th. Sound good?

That sounds great!

Kim | 207 comments I agree sounds great. Started reading today early, as I always juggle reading 4 to 6 books at a time.

Kim | 207 comments I am 20% through this book and struggling to not thow my Kindle at the wall. Will look forward to discussing this.

Alisa | 32 comments I hung with it - but glad to know I wasn't the only one who didn't love it. I can't even say what I didn't like about it so I don't even know how to rate it. Because there are some things I did like... I probably wouldn't have finished it if we weren't going to be discussing it.

Huh. I haven't started it yet. What bothered you ladies? The characters, plot, etc? Sounds like this will be a fun one to discuss. :)

Alisa | 32 comments I'm having a hard time putting it into thoughts; I think you would really have to be okay with the end justifying the means to be able to justify Makay's actions. On the one hand, she did everything so she could keep taking care of her younger brother, Nate. On the other hand, she was really involved in criminal activity and had to know she was always at risk to be arrested and losing everything. Her actions hurt a lot of people and I had a hard time liking her because of that. I could feel sorry for her, and there were things about her I liked, but it seemed like she never tried to do the right thing until her back was against the wall. I realize she had a rough childhood and was working hard to help others, but I felt like she needed more redeeming qualities or something. Her love for her brother and quirky neighbors didn't balance out the hurt she was causing so many people.

I would like to hear other people's takes on this book because maybe I'm missing an angle that will help everything make sense to me!

Again not giving any spoilers as you and others have not started, yes its the characters. I am so appalled and angry at the two main characters (especially the heroine). Being vague again, I find some of the messages at the point that I am at so far into this book, at best denigrating and at worst harmful to read. I am hoping the main characters both have a paradigm shift and progress as humans as I get further a long. Maybe it will be 4 or 5 stars for me then? I don't think I would continue with reading this book if we weren't discussing it, but I am going to push along.

Kim | 207 comments Alisa and I must have replying at the same time earlier *LOL*. Still being vague....I am having hard time like Alisa with how the heroine's actions are hurting her victims, what those actions are, and whom her victims are. It is a really horrible low crime! There are things about the hero I also will discuss when we are further along. The denigrating and harmful messages I will discuss later as well.

Kim | 207 comments OK I finished today and look forward to other people's takes on this book on the 20th and discussing mine as well. I did end up liking it more as I got further along from my prior posts. Still didn't love it.
